The School Crossing Guard, under the supervision of a representative from the Colegrove Park School Safety Management Team and the Crossing Guard Supervisor, plays a critical role in ensuring the safety of students as they travel to and from school. The primary responsibility of a School Crossing Guard is to guide students safety across busy streets and intersections. This position requires clear communication and effective collaboration skills with colleagues and school staff. The work schedule is 8:00am-8:40am and 2:20-3:10pm Monday through Friday for 180 days while school is in session. On early dismissal days, the work schedule is 8:00am-8:40am and 11:00-11:50pm.
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Crossing children at assigned crosswalks, remaining in crosswalk until all students have safely crossed
- Using a STOP sign for signaling vehicles; wearing a safety vest or identifiable safety clothing for increased visibility
- Knowing and obeying all ordinances regarding vehicle and pedestrian traffic with respect to crosswalks
- Informing school personal and Crossing Guard Supervisor of any problems or safety concerns
