 POSITION SUMMARY

The position reports to the Building Inspector and is responsible for skilled clerical and record-keeping work in assisting in discharging the duties of the office, and all other related work as required.

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Provides extensive customer service for the department.
  • Schedules inspections and daily work assignments.
  • Processes building, electrical, gas, and plumbing permits.
  • Processes all health licenses (animal, hennery, food (annual & seasonal), tobacco, remove & transport, haulers, roll-offs, body art, mobile home, swimming pools, frozen, tanning, installers, funeral directors, etc.).
  • Processes burial permits.
  • Types department correspondence and maintains departmental records; supplies information relating to policies, rules, and regulations of the department.
  • Assists the general public with inquiries via personal discussion, telephone conversations, and by mail.
  • Prepares monthly billing.
  • Processes department payroll.
  • Prepares bill schedules for payment and maintains detailed bookkeeping records.
  • Prepares invoices, processes departmental purchase orders, and orders department office supplies.
  • Assists in the permitting process, including renewals.
  • Compiles and creates annual reports.
  • Makes deposits of fees collected with the Treasurer.
  • Performs related job duties as required.

 EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

High School diploma or equivalent and 3 to 5 years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

The position requires a moderate amount of standing, sitting, and climbing stairs whenever necessary. Activities also include minimal physical exertion in body movement such as reaching, bending, twisting, grasping, pushing, and pulling of objects. There is a frequent requirement for fine manipulation associated with the required use of a computer, typewriter, keyboard, calculator, and other business technology.
