GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The North County Community Coordinator will lead community-wide interventions to address the co-occurring crises of Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and behavioral health in the northern region of Berkshire County, MA. This includes facilitating the North Berkshire HEAL Coalition to reduce SUD, increase access to SUD and behavioral health services, and spearheading educational and communications activities to reduce personal and community stigma against people who use drugs and/or have SUD. Working closely with multiple diverse stakeholders including local government, medical and behavioral health providers, people with lived and living experience, first responders, and individual community members alike, the Coordinator will lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive, community-driven strategic plan to address gaps in the local landscapes of SUD prevention, harm reduction, treatment and recovery, along with the related Social Determinants of Health. This is a full-time, position located at North Adams Regional Hospital. Core work hours (10 am to 4 pm) must be covered every workday unless otherwise agreed. Full-time staff must work a minimum of 35 hours per week, with occasional weekend and night meetings as required. This position reports to the Public Health Program Manager.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Act as a BRPC public health expert for substance use and behavioral health issues in northern Berkshire County, MA.
- Act as the project manager for the North County HEAL Coalition, including managing funds, deliverables, reporting, and amendments to funders (in consultation with Finance Director and Public Health Program Manager).
- Coordinate the North County Opiod Abatement Collaborative (OAC), including assisting the chair and co-chair to schedule meetings, ensure meetings are posted and facilitated in a manner consistent with MA Open Meeting laws, take meeting minutes and disseminate, and all other necessary duties
- Develop and update the strategic plan and conduct research and landscape analysis as needed. Ensure evaluation of the plan on an ongoing basis.
- Coordinate subcontractors, invoicing, program planning, publicity/ communications and community outreach/ engagement.
- Represent the coalition, participating partners and BRPC at local, state and regional meetings.
- Provide presentations and learning activities as requested/appropriate to community groups and municipal leaders.
- All other project manager/coordinator tasks associated with the coalition.
- Pursue additional substance use prevention and reduction opportunities, including identification of opportunities, coordination of partners, and coordination of grant writing.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Proactively cultivate working relationships with key stakeholders in multiple sectors to enhance the coalition and the impact of its efforts.
- Initiate proactive engagement with and cultivate leadership from historically underserved communities that are disproportionately harmed by substance use.
- Serve as a regional hub for resources related to SUD.
- Work with program supervisors to identify, write and manage grants and other potential additional funding streams.
- Assist program supervisors with development and monitoring of annual budget.
- Provide regular reporting as required and requested by funders, including the participating municipalities, The Attorney General’s Office, Berkshire Health Systems, and potential additional future funders.
- Support the activities of related initiatives in the region, as well as other BRPC public health projects including the Berkshire Overdose and Addiction Prevention Collaborative (BOAPC).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in public health or a relevant field from an accredited college or university with at least two years of professional experience, preferably at the regional level.
- Eight years’ relevant experience or an equivalent combination of experience and training may be substituted for a master’s degree.
- At least one year of experience in managing complex planning projects
- Experience in community building, event coordination, strategic planning, meeting facilitation, conflict resolution, and implementing data-driven, evidence-informed strategies.
- Motivated self-starter with strong interpersonal skills and strong writing skills.
- Ability to work independently and with diverse groups, set priorities, and manage workflows.
- Comfort and confidence working with law enforcement, the legal system and first responders is required. Prior experience working in these sectors is not required.
- Working proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
- Ability to travel throughout Berkshire County, MA all times of the year to attend meetings, events, and training.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Working knowledge of SUD prevention, harm reduction, treatment and recovery is strongly preferred but will train someone with transferable skills and strong interest.
- Experience with data collection and reporting, program evaluation, grant management, grant writing, public communications strategies, social media, and local government processes.
