The mechanic is in charge of keeping town vehicles and equipment in good shape and fixing broken ones. They do standard work assignments in the area of maintaining and fixing motorized and mechanical equipment and follow the rules for testing and fixing motor vehicles. They must also abide by the town's rules and procedures.
When not working in the mechanics garage, the worker is in charge of both skilled and unskilled physical labor, such as digging ditches, fixing up streets, maintaining the ground, and finishing all of the Public Works department's projects, including plowing, salting, and sanding roads. The worker has to do all tasks that are similar or connected.
This employment requires a Class B Massachusetts Commercial Driver's License with tanker and air brake endorsements. 4G and 2A hoisting license.
Please note: The town may support qualified applicants in obtaining their Class B MA commercial driver's license, which includes tanker and air brake endorsements, as well as their 2A and 4G hoisting permits, under mutually agreed-upon binding conditions.
This employee must participate in the department's Random Drug and Alcohol Testing Program, complete a physical exam, and maintain the necessary physical condition to perform the essential functions of the position safely and efficiently in accordance with the department's safety policies and equipment or vehicle manufacturer guidelines. Must have basic mechanic tools.
