DEPARTMENT:                  DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SERVICES – PARKS DIVISION

EMPLOYMENT TYPE:        FULL-TIME/NON-EXEMPT

The Parks Maintenance Person performs skilled and unskilled manual duties of maintaining and caring for the recreation areas, athletic fields, parks and playgrounds.  The Parks Maintenance Person will care for and maintain playground and parks equipment, general grounds, shrubs, brush, trees and other maintenance as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operates vehicles, tractors, mowers and other on and off-road vehicles for the maintenance and care of park and recreation areas, equipment and general grounds upkeep.
  • Ability to operate all types of hand tools, manual & power actuated shop equipment for the repair of parks & recreation equipment and facilities.
  • Lines and stripes playing fields and maintenance athletic fields such as; basketball courts, soccer, football, baseball and track fields.
  • Plants, waters, prunes and removes shrubs and grass. Repairs fences, water fountains, drainage systems swings, slides and other playground equipment. Performs painting, incidental carpentry and other maintenance or fabrication work.
  • Performs related unskilled labor duties such as; cleaning & picking up litter and debris, emptying trash and recycle receptacles, graffiti removal and cleaning restrooms.
  • May operate motor & power equipment for duties assigned.
  • Participates in snow and ice removal operations. May operate snowplow or snow-blower and hand shoveling.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • One year of acceptable work experience as a general or grounds maintenance man. Must have experience working both inside and outside of facilities. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with the public and other employees.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbent may be required to work at any time during the 24-hour day to respond to weather-related or emergency needs. Incumbent may be required to work in inclement weather.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability and agility sufficient to operate equipment and supplies used for landscaping and general grounds maintenance, walk long distances over sometimes uneven terrain, lift up to 50 pounds from the ground to shoulder height, and generally perform heavy labor.

 

HOURS

Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm

40 hours per week


SALARY

Without Hoisting License

$17.06 – $18.10 per hour with annual increase up to $23.61 per hour

With Hoisting License

$18.03 - $19.13 per hour with annual increases up to $24.96 per hour
