The City of Pittsfield's Building Maintenance Department seeks to fill the position of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Repair Person.  The qualified individual will be under the supervision of the Director of Building Maintenance.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains City owned buildings and schools, installs, inspects, and repairs all HVAC equipment.  Equipment includes, but not limited to, boilers, burners, controls, air handlers, uninvents and exhaust units.
  • Replace valves, fans, motors, gaskets, filters and belts, fuses, capacitors, bearings, sheaves, actuators and uses various testing devices to locate defective parts and adjust RPM on motors and fans.
  • Adjust and install switches, gauges, thermostats, valves, tubing and other parts as needed; makes pipe connections and repairs; troubleshoots and repairs electrical components pertaining to heating, ventilating and air conditioning.
  • Keeps updated with regard to new regulations and procedures pertaining to heating, ventilating and air conditioning.
  • Assigns and reviews the work of co-workers assigned to specific projects.      Works from blueprints, schematics and rough sketches, plans and organizes assigned work orders.
  • Operates the building controls energy management systems to perform at peak efficiency.
  • Performs all manual duties related to the general maintenance of all city owned buildings as assigned. May be required to work with other trades where necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license, class D.
  • Must possess a Refrigerant Transition & Recovery Certification approved by the EPA.
  • A valid Commonwealth of Ma Certificate of Competency to make, alter or repair oil burners is a plus.
  • Three years’ experience in the heating and/or air conditioning trade.
  • Knowledge of proper methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of heating and air conditioning equipment and systems, pipe fitting, sheet metal work and electrical work pertaining to heating and air conditioning repair.
  • Thorough knowledge of standard practices, methods, techniques of the HVAC trade and skill applications.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and regulations, appropriate precautions and procedures as they pertain to Public and School Buildings.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The incumbent works in various dynamic municipal buildings and locations.  While performing the duties of the HVAC Repair Person the incumbent is required to: interact and communicate frequently with the public, government officials, other staff members and boards, and/or third parties transacting business with the City. Frequent periods of outside work may be entailed, subject to all weather conditions and extremes.  Incumbent may be required to work at any time during the 24-hour day to respond to weather-related or emergency needs. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability and agility sufficient to operate HVAC equipment, climb ladders, work in confined spaces and lift up to 50 pounds from the ground to shoulder height.

HOURS

7:00AM – 3:30PM, Monday – Friday

40 Hours per week

Some weekend and evening hours may be required. 


SALARY

Starting salary $23.24 - $26.15 an hour

Annual increases up to $32.17 an hour
