JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the SVP Commercial Lending Manager, the AVP/VP Commercial Loan Officer is an individual contributor to the Bank, growing and retaining profitable relationships within the Co-op’s Commercial Lending Department.  Responsible for originating, managing and supervising a portfolio of commercial real estate and non-real estate loans and deposits, with an overall objective of maintaining and increasing its asset quality; to develop new and maintain existing business relationships. 

The AVP/VP Commercial Loan Officer is tasked with meeting business development goals, seeking opportunities to sell multiple products and solutions to clients and anticipating their future needs.  An AVP/VP Commercial Loan Officer will focus on the delivery of value added solutions to our clients and prospects that will help them reach their goals and maximize our revenues over the life of the relationship.

AVP/VP Commercial Loan Officers develop a weekly sales plan prioritizing revenue generating sales opportunities and are responsible for cultivating referral sources, institutionalizing relationships and calling.  Specific calling goals are developed depending upon client portfolio responsibilities with a strong emphasis on in-person meeting with clients and prospective clients. Credit process management is a critical component of the responsibilities of an AVP Commercial Loan Officer.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Directs and implements business development activities, such as calls on clients and prospects.
  • Interviews clients and prospects for commercial loans and deposits and recommends approval within the established bank policies.
  • Analyze credit applications, financial statements, tax returns and bank references to evaluate the financial condition of individuals and businesses applying for credit with the bank.
  • Packages new and/or renewal loans and recommends loan terms and conditions.
  • Manages, supervises, and grows loan and deposit portfolios.
  • Develops and maintains existing client base and builds customer satisfaction and confidence in the Co-op.
  • Manages large or complex commercial loans and deposits as needed, and counsels customers on loan and deposit management, and beneficial financial strategies.
  • Maintains and enhances information based on local and national economics, as well as other concerns that would impact the financial institution’s lending activities.

OTHER FUNCTIONS

  • Makes recommendations to management on product improvements or changes.
  • Oversees and recommends upgrades and improvements to financial institution policies and procedures. Ensures that any changes are implemented.
  • Participates as a member of various Bank committees as assigned.
  • Represents the Bank and provide leadership in key community activities and committees.
  • Participate in professional associations; attend conventions, conferences and seminars
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or related field and/or 3 - 5 years’ experience in commercial credit or lending at a similar financial institution.  Credit training a plus.
  • Knowledge of commercial banking products, and financial institution policies and procedures.
  • Excellent communication, management, analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Proven organizational and public relations skills.  Demonstrated experience of meeting or exceeding sales goals a plus.
