Seeking two Speech & Language Pathologists for the North Adams Public Schools District. This position is subject to the North Adams Teacher's Association Contract. It is for the school year only.

Job Goal:To help reduce or eliminate speech and hearing impediments that interferes with the individual student’s ability to derive full benefit from the school system’s educational program.

Supervision:Reports to the Administrator of Director of Student Support Services. 

Performance Responsibilities:

1.Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement.
2.Provides a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of speech and hearing handicapped children.
3.Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments.
4.Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, hearing, and language impairments.
5.Provides screening to identify speech handicapped children at regular intervals and at specified levels, including preschool.
6.Provides parents and teachers with required remedial materials.
7.Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.
8.Participates in full-TEAM evaluations if they involve children with speech handicaps.
9.Schedules intermediate evaluation meetings, if they involve children with speech handicaps, and serves as chairperson.
10.Writes and provides appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual students’ needs and correct existing speech or language handicaps.
11.Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by suggestions for the students’ daily activities.
12.Provides information, support, and counseling to parents and families when appropriate.
13.Maintains regular contact with teachers and parents, concerning student progress, through quarterly reports.
14.Provides in-service education and serves as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech improvement.
15.Keeps a thorough ongoing record for the individual student receiving therapy or other school-provided speech services.
16.Maintains lists of referred, screened, and eligible students, as well as a directory of outside agencies, consultants, specialists, and related services.
17.Compiles case history data on those cases where additional family history, health history, early development history, and environmental history are deemed appropriate.
18.Assumes primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment and supplies.
19.Prepares and administers the annual budget for speech therapy services. 
20.Any other related duties as may be assigned by Administration.

Required:  Valid Massachusetts license as a speech pathologist. Master’s Degree. Certificate of Clinical Competence. 

Preferred:  More than three years of prior experience as a Speech Pathologist
