Options Counselors assist older adults and individuals with disabilities in making informed choices about long-term care and support options. It involves an interactive, person-centered approach where individuals, along with their families or caregivers, discuss their needs, preferences, and values to determine the most appropriate long-term care choices. The counselor helps individuals understand their options, explore different settings and services, and make informed decisions

Education/Experience Requirements: Bachelor’s degree and two years’ relevant experience in human services or health care.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to working with the elderly and disabled adults; strong sensitivity to aging and disability issues.
  • Crisis intervention/problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to apply the practices, principles, and techniques used in professional social work.
  • Leadership ability; independent thinker; self-starter.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience using databases.
