Purpose/Objective:
Performs a variety of accounting related duties for Berkshire Insurance Group and the Bank.  Responsible for posting journal entry transactions, cash receipts and balancing various general ledger accounts.  Provides oversight of the accounting processes for the Insurance Group by analyzing trends, issues and variances.  Ensures all duties are performed in accordance with prescribed regulations and compliance guidelines.  Assists in various accounting projects as it relates to the general ledger and also acts as a resource to staff and clerks.

Key Accountabilities:
Maintains Berkshire Insurance Group’s system of accounting for certain daily and monthly classes of transactions.  Runs daily process, prepares routine journal entries, reconciles entries to financial reporting system including performing general ledger research.    25%
Verifies and processes account currents, and company statements. Reconciles premium and commission discrepancies to company statements.   Act as a contact to departments regarding invoice errors, discrepancies and inquiries.  20%
Enters and reviews cash receipts into the financial reporting system.  Responsible for the accurate filing and storage of all commission receipt documents.  15%
Performs extensive spreadsheet based analysis and balancing through extensive research of the general ledger and subledgers, business unit contacts and external sources. 10%
Prepare producer commission reports for HR and Accounts Payable. Maintains the records of the sales dept. and ensures that producer accounting procedures are followed. 10%
Works well within a team to perform backup to staff and officers and provides internal customer service to other departments within the Bank and other duties as assigned.  Acts a resource to staff and clerks.   10%
Ensures compliance with all banking laws, rules, regulations, and prescribed policies/practices/procedures necessary to reduce risk and uphold ethical standards related to and required by one’s duties.  Assists with audits and SOX control testing.  10%
Requirements:
Education:
Associates Degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience.

Experience:
2-3 years’ experience in general accounting.
Some insurance experience preferred

Skills & Knowledge:
Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
Strong General Ledger knowledge
Proficient  in Excel, and Word
Strong oral/written communications, analytical & interpersonal skills
