Williams is pleased to announce an opening for a full-time Athletic Groundskeeper. This is full-time (40 hrs. /week), year-round, regular appointment in the Facilities Department. This position is responsible for the on-going care and enhancement of College landscapes, hardscapes, and athletic sports complexes. Typical working hours are 7am to 3:30pm with evening / weekend overtime required, particularly during inclement weather, special events and sporting events. Schedule will move to three nights and two days a week during hockey rink season.

The Groundskeeper will support the mission of the college to provide a nurturing educational environment. Review of applications will begin on September 25, 2024, and continue until the position is filled. Pay starts at $19/hour, commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintenance includes, but not limited to the following building systems: roads, lawns, gardens, trees, cemetery, caskets/cremation urns, parking areas, fences, sport systems (ice rink, tennis courts, sport fields, etc.), exterior signs on posts installation, meadows, patios and plazas, bollards, exterior stairs, and snow removal;
  • Operation of grounds mechanical equipment including one-ton trucks with snow plows/sanders, tractors, rotary and reel riding lawn mowers, push mowers, trimmers, snow blower, power brooms, chainsaws, leaf blowers and vacuums, rototiller, sliced and core aerators, granular fertilizer spreaders, street-sweepers, small utility vehicles, payloader, backhoe, and vehicle lifts;
  • Performing maintenance of off-campus sites, equipment, and set-ups for events;
  • Campus moves of miscellaneous equipment, furniture, and materials; and
  • On-going care and enhancement of the college plant landscape including trees, shrubs, flowers, vines, and pest/disease control.


Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 2 years of demonstrated experience with grounds maintenance operations and equipment operation.
  • The ability to take direction and work within a team environment, while servicing the diverse College community is essential.
  • A Hoisting Engineer License is required within the first year of employment.
  • Massachusetts pesticide license is required within the first two years of employment.
  • A valid driver's license and DOT Medical Card are required.
  • Must be able to work in inclement weather including below freezing temperatures.
  • Ability to lift and carry at least 70 lbs. with assistance.
  • The ability to lift, stretch, bend, reach overhead, and physically move around on the grounds is necessary.
  • Computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Office.
