The Inpatient Services Nursing Informaticist and Performance Improvement Specialist (ISNIPIS) is a part of the Acute Care Services leadership team and will work collaboratively with the BMC Quality department, IT Clinical and IT Data Analysts Department for Inpatient Services to support the analysis and integrity of data for outcome performance metrics.

This position is the data expert that understands and communicates the technological processes and the reasons behind them to the clinical staff. They bridge the gap between data and nursing practice by combining clinical experience and data expertise. This position will focus on clinical process improvement, efficiency, and efficacy of practice. 

The ISNIPIS uses expertise in clinical process, analytics, clinical data systems and statistics to ensure a continuous process of quality assurance. The position requires a solid foundation of statistics and data analysis from disparate data sources and data visualization needed to identify defects, quality control documentation, and programming.  

This position supports Quality Performance Improvement, Infection Prevention, Regulatory Compliance, Information Technology and Clinical Departments and works with a broad range of clinical information to support clinical staff, managers, administrators and regulatory bodies regarding electronic data and the electronic medical record (EMR).

  • POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum qualifications are required unless stated otherwise.)
    • Experience:
      • Three years’ experience  in an Acute Care professional clinical setting required.
      • Familiar with the processes within the Acute Care Service environment.
    • Education and Training:
      • Bachelor of Science in Nursing or related profession with a concentration in Informatics or equivalent combination of education and work experience required.
      • Strong knowledge of Meditech Hospital Information Systems required.
      • Knowledge of clinical terms and concepts related to administrative coding, including DRG, ICD, and CPT.
      • Knowledge of programming languages (e.g., SQL), data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau), and/or Crystal report writing preferred.
    • License, Certification & Registration:
      • Professional licensure in the state of Massachusetts preferred.
    • Other Requirements:
      • Strong project management skills and leadership ability required.
      • Strong process orientation, problem solving and troubleshooting skills required.
