The Maintenance Technician position at Austen Riggs Center is a full time, non-exempt position that provides responsive and skilled building and grounds maintenance with attention to safety, and regulatory standards while maintaining a safe environment for the Center. The Maintenance Technician works independently and efficiently to ensure the smooth day-to-day operations for the Center as assigned by the Facilities Manager and/or the Director of Facilities.

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing ongoing facility maintenance and completing repairs on equipment. The Maintenance Technician’s duties include fixing machinery, plumbing, heating, wiring, snow removal, office moves, inspecting buildings to confirm safety standards. The Maintenance Technician’s responsibilities include managing work orders, conducting preventive maintenance, and routine safety inspections. The Maintenance Technician will be involved in performing routine maintenance around the building, such as fixing structural damage, performing window, door, and/or wall repairs. The Maintenance Technician will provide oversight for the maintenance of mechanical equipment, appliances, plumbing, heating units, air-conditioning, locks, phones, and other communications systems. The Maintenance Technician will be part of an on-call rotation for issues during non-business hours.

The Maintenance Technician will have direct contact with patients, staff, and visitors; therefore, the incumbent should possess exceptional customer service abilities and extensive technical knowledge. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for keeping the facility operating and repairing any problems when they are discovered before they have a chance to worsen or fail. 

Schedule: 40 hours Monday-Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm

  • High school, or trade school graduate preferred, or significant building and technical experience.
  • Computer literate and able to work with BMS controls and maintenance management software. 
  • Current driver’s license with good driving record. 
  • Minimum 5 years general maintenance experience working in property and building management,[RN1]  or structured maintenance setting required. 
  • General knowledge in technical disciplines including plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC systems, building construction[RN2] , and painting.
  • Solid mechanical knowledge with demonstrated organizational skills and effective communication abilities. 
  • Demonstrated ability to use power equipment and tools effectively and safely. 
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to work professionally in a diverse and inclusive community.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with patients at all times while respecting their privacy.
  • Must always follow universal safety precautions.
  • Ability to lift, walk, reach, bend, push, pull, climb stairs and tolerate heights. Ability to lift at least 50 pounds without assistance. 
  • Must be available to work overtime and weekends occasionally when necessary.
