General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS), a market leader and technology innovator, is seeking talented professionals to deliver cutting edge solutions to our Navy customers.

GDMS has an immediate opening for a Chief Engineer in the command, control, and security business to join our team based in Pittsfield MA. Our employees work closely with our customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high consequence physical security missions.

The selected candidate will lead definition of technical strategies, solutions and plans. Our team works with the Navy and industry customers to design, build, deploy and maintain command, control, and security capability. The mission demands we deliver leading edge high reliability, high assurance, cyber-resilient systems. As the Chief Engineer, you will lead the segment technical strategies and captures, and hold final technical authority over the design, production,  installation, and activation activities needed to satisfy the interface, activation, and operational requirements of the systems we deliver.

Duties will include but are not limited to:
 
Develop effective and affordable technical operational concepts, architecture, solutions, products, and approaches
Ensure appropriate rigor in our solutions by employing a questioning attitude and engaging subject matter experts as appropriate
Support business growth & strategy development and translate to engineering plans and requirements
Develop and oversee technology roadmaps in support of GDMS long-range strategic plans, IRAD investments, and ensure alignment with customers’ strategic objectives
Lead resolution of technical issues & risks on critical and high profile activities
Maintain excellent customer interaction by presenting technically sound solutions, solicited and unsolicited ideas for system enhancements, and ensuring operational perspective is captured in solutions
Working with the customer leadership and Program Director, ensure long-term program sustainability by leading a transition to a principle-based, rather than rules-based, acquisition strategy
Mentor senior level and junior engineers to grow key skills required by the business; identify and cultivate high-potential individuals
Develop / deliver technical leadership in the marketplace via the development of relationships with major program offices and through the promotion of our capabilities at conferences
Support Engineering Objectives through ensuring high quality, mission capable products delivered on time and on budget
Drive a culture of innovation and operational improvements

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

Candidates are required to have demonstrated tremendous leadership and communication skills
Candidates are required to have demonstrated team building and motivation skills
Candidates are required to have demonstrated success on significant programs as engineering lead /chief engineer, and/or as a program manager with excellent technical and people leadership strengths, with proven business experience in the design, integration and production of high reliability, high assurance systems
Candidates need to have the balanced technical and programmatic background to be a decision maker on program technical issues, understand the business aspects and have the ability to be a strategic / competitive thinker exhibiting an exceptional degree of ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness
The candidate should be capable of demonstrating entrepreneurial thinking in support of developing innovative solutions and applications that can translate theory to real world solutions that enable new missions for current and future customers.
Requirements:
The Chief Engineer requires a Bachelor's degree in Systems, Computer Science or related technical field or the equivalent and at least 15 years of related leadership experience. Applicants with a Master's degree and a minimum of 13 years of related leadership experience are also eligible.

Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire - active, transferable or able to obtain a TS clearance is required, while a TS/SCI clearance would be a benefit. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed in our facility, U.S. citizenship is required.
