The Senior Manager of Membership is responsible for overseeing and advancing MASS MoCA’s membership program. This role will be responsible for developing and implementing creative strategies for the acquisition, stewardship, and retention of members, including the advancement of members to higher level categories. This position works in collaboration with colleagues across the institution to develop and execute innovative opportunities to engage members through events and programs and broaden the membership base. 

Museum membership is a vital component of  the organization’s strategic fundraising and community engagement priorities which also include foundation and corporate support, annual fund, and special events.  

The Senior Manager of Membership reports to the Director of Philanthropy and oversees a Membership Coordinator. This individual will utilize the Tessitura database to organize communications, process memberships, and analyze and identify trends to better serve members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and manage the museum membership program (currently 4,500 members) to meet annual strategic and budgetary goals
  • Set goals in each member category and identify new opportunities and strategies to grow the membership base and increase revenues
  • Analyze members to identify prospects for larger gifts, creating donor pipeline for Advancement colleagues
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement lively and engaging member activities with support from the Special Events Coordinator and Visitor Experience team including previews, behind the scenes, and other activities 
  • In collaboration with the Seniorr Manager of Advancement Operations and full Advancement team members, assist with planning and execution of other fundraising events
  • Work with Communications & Content team on membership marketing plan including seasonal membership drives, promotions, and special events 
  • Write copy and execute member emails including preview invitations and monthly membership emails; provide content and review design for member promotional materials, and membership related events on the website
  • Oversee membership customer service process including updating membership FAQ 
  • Manage monthly membership renewal communications including the processing of memberships in Tessitura and acknowledgements
  • Develop and provide monthly membership reports and dashboard information to management team
  • Develop and manage member feedback system to inform programming, benefits and strategy
  • Coordinate with Visitor Experience and Public Programs departments to meet community engagement goals including management of library passes, student passes, national museum coalitions, and corporate memberships
  • Develop and maintain annual budget for membership program
  • Overseas the Membership Coordinator

  • An effective collaborator who is good at working with others to get projects done

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, preferred.
  • At least 5 years of fundraising and/or membership experience required; e. Experience with the non-profit sector preferred.
  • This position requires occasional work on weekends and evenings. 

Work Conditions

  • Position may require extended hours, work on weekends, holidays and for festivals and events
  • The work week is Monday - Friday

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to wear PPE as necessary.
  • For employment at MASS MoCA, candidates must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination will be required for employment.

Exempt position. Minimum starting salary is $65k.
