About Clarksburg: Located in the Berkshires, Clarksburg boasts a population of 1,600. The town is bordered on two sides by mountains, with East Mountain and Bald Mountain to the west, and the Hoosac Range to the east. Between the two ranges, Hudson Brook and the north branch of the Hoosic River flow through the valley, merging just south of the town line. In the northern part of the valley is Clarksburg State Park, operated by the state's Department of Conservation and Recreation. The park is home to Mauserts Pond and offers picnicking, hiking, and camping, as well as other recreational activities.
Position Available: The Town of Clarksburg is currently accepting applications for an Assessor with an associates degree and five years’ relevant experience and MMA designation, preferred.
Compensation and Benefits: $56,000- $62,000, with paid holidays, personal days, paid vacation and sick time, and comprehensive insurance benefits.
Essential Functions
- Value all real and personal property within the municipality on a fair cash value basis. Inspect property sales, complete annual property value adjustment analysis, and prepare for a 5-year certification process of property values by DLS.
- Conduct documentation and physical inspections of building permit properties including new builds, additions, alterations, demolitions, etc. and determine new growth.
- Conduct cyclical physical and visual field inspections of each parcel in town as required under Department of Revenue regulations.
- Fix the annual tax levy and set the tax rate.
- Establish the annual overlay amount and determine any overlay surplus.
- Assess and administer motor vehicle, farm, and excise tax.
- Prepare the valuation and commitment list.
- Commit original and apportioned betterments to the collector.
- Process and act on abatement and exemption applications, including ascertaining continued annual compliance requirements.
- Prepare all federal, state, and locally mandated reports required of the Assessor’s office.
