Parks Maintenance Craftsperson

The Parks Maintenance Craftsperson performs several tasks requiring the highest degree of skills in the maintenance and care of recreation areas, athletic fields, parks and playgrounds, including school properties. This position requires the supervision of a small crew of parks maintenance employees.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs carpentry and masonry repairs
  • Performs ground maintenance duties, including but not limited to: planting, mowing, raking, trimming and grading
  • Performs snow and ice removal service including but not limited to: plowing, sanding, and shoveling
  • Performs general maintenance including but not limited to: cleaning up debris and trash, cleaning restrooms, constructs and repairs fences, benches, bleachers and playground apparatus; painting, trimming trees and bushes, athletic field preparation and lining, the operation of motor vehicles, equipment and power tools.
  • Performs mechanical repairs of power mowers, tractors, snow blowers, and other equipment
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Experience with grounds maintenance equipment and power tools, including the mechanical repair of equipment and tools
  • Working knowledge of both 2 and 4 cycle internal combustion engines
  • Previous experience in the supervision of other employees preferred
  • Must utilize own tools
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deal efficiently and effectively with the public and other

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbent may be required to work at any time during the 24-hour day to respond to weather-related or emergency needs. Incumbent may be required to work in inclement weather.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability and agility sufficient to operate equipment and supplies used for landscaping and general grounds maintenance, walk long distances over sometimes uneven terrain, lift up to 50 pounds from the ground to shoulder height, and generally perform heavy labor.

HOURS

Monday – Friday, 7:00AM – 3:30AM

40 Hours per week

SALARY

Without Hoisting License

Starting Salary $17.59 - $18.66 Per Hour

Annual Increases up to $24.35 Per Hour

With Hoisting License

Starting Salary $18.52 - $19.65 Per Hour

Annual Increases up to $25.64 Per Hour
