Position Overview
The City of North Adams is seeking motivated, dedicated, and community-oriented individuals to join the North Adams Fire Department as Firefighters. This position involves protecting life and property through fire suppression, emergency medical services, rescue operations, and public safety education.

Key Responsibilities
• Respond to fire alarms, medical emergencies, rescues, hazardous material incidents, and other emergency calls
• Operate firefighting and emergency equipment, including engines, ladders, hoses, and medical gear
• Provide emergency medical care at the appropriate certification level
• Participate in fire prevention, inspections, and public education programs
• Maintain fire apparatus, equipment, and station facilities
• Engage in ongoing training, drills, and professional development
• Work collaboratively with other public safety agencies

Minimum Qualifications
• Must be 19 years of age to apply
• High school diploma or GED (required)
• Valid driver’s license (required)
• EMT certification (required or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe)
• Firefighter I/II certification (preferred or ability to complete 10-week Firefighter Academy)
• Must meet all physical, medical, and background requirements
• Ability to work 24-hour shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays

Preferred Qualifications
• Prior firefighting, EMS, or public safety experience
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Commitment to public service and community engagement

Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to perform strenuous physical tasks under extreme conditions, including:
• Lifting and carrying heavy equipment
• Climbing ladders and working at heights
• Operating in hazardous environments (heat, smoke, confined spaces)
