DescriptionThe Biology Department at Williams College, a premier liberal arts college with a long-standing tradition of excellence in the sciences, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin July 2026. We welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds and strongly encourage individuals whose experiences and perspectives will enhance our commitment to academic excellence and innovation to apply.
We seek a broadly trained molecular and/or cell biologist
who has the expertise to develop and teach an upper-level course in immunology with a strong lab component. The faculty member hired into this position will also offer a senior seminar course in their area of specialty and contribute to the core curriculum. It is important to us that this person's research complements, rather than duplicating, our department's existing strengths. The candidate will also contribute to our introductory course in cellular and molecular biology and other core courses depending on their background. The individual will advise undergraduates in research and participate in interdisciplinary programs in biochemistry & molecular biology, and/or bioinformatics, genomics & proteomics. Typically, faculty members teach one course and two laboratory sections (or the equivalent) each semester and mentor undergraduate research projects.
QualificationsWe expect a vibrant research program that is attractive to extramural funding agencies and involves talented undergraduates, and start-up funds and internal funding for research are available. Specialized research facilities support imaging, cell culture, work with vertebrate animals, and instrumentation including mass spectrometry and flow cytometry. A Ph.D., postdoctoral experience, and a strong research record are required. We anticipate the appointment at the beginning assistant professor level. Application InstructionsAll applications should be submitted through Interfolio
https://apply.interfolio.com/169656. Email and paper applications will not be accepted. The application should include the following, each as an independent document: (1) a cover letter addressed to Professor Robert Savage (Chair, Biology Department), (2) a curriculum vitae, (3) a concise statement of teaching philosophy, and (4) a concise description of research plans that includes details on undergraduate involvement. In the context of your teaching and research program, your application should also speak to your efforts to work effectively with a diverse student population. After an initial round of reviews, we will request three recommendation letters from those applicants who advance in the search. A 14-day turnaround time will be provided for those letters to be submitted. On-campus interviews will then be conducted in late October and early November. All offers of employment are contingent upon completion of a background check. Further information is available here:
