Norman Rockwell Museum is the preeminent museum of American illustration art, inspired by the enduring legacy of Norman Rockwell. The Museum preserves the world’s largest collection of Rockwell art, an important and growing collection of American illustration art, the artist’s Stockbridge studio, and the Norman Rockwell Archives, a 200,000-item collection undergoing digital preservation.

The Museum is home to the Rockwell Center for American Visual Studies, the nation’s first art history research institute devoted to the art of illustration. Norman Rockwell Museum became the first museum recipient of the National Humanities Medal, America’s highest honor in the field.

The Role:  
Our Museum Associates are an integral part of making sure our visitors have an engaging and positive experience while visiting the museum!

Staff will rotate through positions in Visitor Services and our Museum Store & Cafe and enjoy many opportunities to interact with visitors in a welcoming environment.

Responsibilities:

Admissions:

  • Greet individuals and bus groups, provide orientations and recommendations for different experiences guests can engage in while on campus.
  • Sells Studio, Gallery, and Curator Tour experiences to visitors, and gains understanding of POS and reservation systems.
  • Answers phones, directing calls, and provides guests with assistance with online bookings over the phone.

Museum Store & Cafe:

  • Becomes familiar with Store Merchandise and assists customers with their purchase; including retrieving prints not on display and providing support in finding merchandise.
  • Provides assistance as a cashier in café, following all health & safety practices.
  • Replenishing inventory, stocking, and displaying merchandise in an attractive and neat manner.

Membership & Programs:

  • Becomes familiar with Membership options and explains the benefits of Membership to new visitors. Staff receive a bonus for every membership sold.
  • Assists with museum events and special experiences.
  • Sets up daily engagement items and family activities on campus.
  • Supports overall museum operations, and mission. Supports safety policies to ensure the safety of the collections, staff, and facility. Other duties as assigned.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Personable with excellent communication skills.
  • Works confidently in a busy environment and can manage a line efficiently.
  • Able to learn technology systems quickly. Comfortable using a variety of technology systems, and willing to help visitors engage with digital technology (Mobile App etc.)
  • Enjoys interacting with customers and making recommendations.

A desire to help people have great experiences, whether they are a visitor or a fellow staff member, is the most important qualification!
