The Museum is home to the Rockwell Center for American Visual Studies, the nation’s first art history research institute devoted to the art of illustration. Norman Rockwell Museum became the first museum recipient of the National Humanities Medal, America’s highest honor in the field.

The Norman Rockwell Museum seeks a full-time museum educator to join its Learning and Engagement department. The Museum Educator will lead tours, workshops, and facilitate artmaking at museum events, serve as a liaison to K-12 schools and families, develop and implement the museum’s programs for children, community members and families, and assist in the planning and implementation of adult education programs, including lectures, walking tours, large-scale community events, and gallery tours. 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborate with the Chief Learning and Engagement Officer to plan and develop education programs, tours, and workshops.
  • Deliver education programs including tours, in-gallery programs, workshops, classes, camps, and multi-visit programs to student groups of all needs and abilities, grades K-12, as well as adults and senior citizens.
  • Facilitate weekend/holiday family workshops and activities as needed.
  • Ensure a positive museum-going experience for all visitors.
  • Serve as primary contact for schools and community partnerships. 
  • Coordinate across schools, organizations, program stakeholders and strategic partners to schedule and plan programs, workshops, and events. 
  • Expand the museum’s education programs by advancing relationships with new schools, community, and institutional partners. 
  • Attend regular departmental meetings.
  • Additional responsibilities may include assisting with after-school courses, both on-site and off-site; assisting at special events; and serving as a Museum representative for various off-site activities as needed.
  • Other administrative duties as assigned. 

 

Computer Literacy and Technology Skills 

All positions at NRM require some use of technology and staff are expected to be comfortable within an information technology environment. Knowledge and skills for basic use of computer hardware, software, email, calendars, and the Internet enhances efficiency, workflow and overall experience within the workplace.  

Qualifications: 

  • Undergraduate work or degree in education, art, history, or related field
  • Previous museum education experience
  • Background of working with young people strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of child development theory and inquiry-based teaching
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment? 
  • We are looking especially for candidates who can teach in both Spanish and English, but it is not a requirement
  • Working knowledge of art history and/or illustration a plus
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with others 

WORK SCHEDULE: Tuesday through Saturday
