Retail Cashier - Hardware & Lumber Store - Duke's Lumber - North Adams

Job Responsibilities:

• Greet customers, process sales transactions, and ensure a positive checkout experience.
• Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system to process cash, credit, and digital payments.
• Accurately count cash, handle refunds, and manage store credits.
• Explain promotions, loyalty programs, and special offers to customers.
• Maintain the cashier area in a clean and organized manner.
• Ensure correct pricing, scan items accurately, and apply discounts appropriately.
• Bag merchandise and assist customers with large or heavy items.
• Communicate with team members and escalate customer issues when necessary.

• Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Strong customer service skills with a friendly, professional attitude.
  • Experience handling cash and operating POS systems (training available for those without experience).
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in transaction processing.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform light lifting (up to 20 lbs).

  Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous retail or cashier experience, especially in hardware, lumber, or construction materials.
  • Familiarity with tools, building supplies, and home improvement products.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Basic computer skills for operating digital payment systems and store software.
  • Ability to recommend related products or upsell to enhance customer purchases.
