Opening Details

Williams College, a member of NCAA Division III's NESCAC conference, is excited to announce an opening for a Head Strength and Conditioning Coach overseeing programming 32 varsity sports. Reporting to the Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Services, the Head Strength and Conditioning (S&C) Coach will lead, plan and coordinate all aspects of competitive intercollegiate sports performance programming including strength and conditioning, speed and agility training, effective teaching of exercise technique, and all components focused on student-athlete performance development.

The Head Strength and Conditioning Coach plays a key role in safety and compliance within the NESCAC, NCAA and Williams College rules and regulations. The successful candidate will work directly with sports medicine, as well as head and assistant coaches to establish appropriate competitive and developmental goals for each sport in each season. They will also work closely with the Sports Medicine staff to communicate and collaborate on student-athlete acclimatization, safety, injury recovery, and injury prevention.

Responsibilities

Primary duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Designing, developing, directing and conducting team and individual strength and conditioning programs for in-season, post-season and non-traditional seasons where appropriate and permissible.
  • Preparing training and acclimatization programs that reflect current scientific research in the field and meet NCAA compliance requirements as well as developing data analytics to evaluate implemented programs for student-athletes in order to refine programming.
  • Mentoring, supervising, scheduling and collaborating with strength & conditioning coaching staff (head coaches and assistants) who serve as S&C coaches and facility supervisors.
  • Communicating effectively and developing positive working relationships with head coaches, student-athletes, sports medicine staff and administrators.
  • Overseeing the promotion of student-athlete safety and well-being in all training sessions, conditioning activities, practice activities and competitions. Provide student-athletes with instruction regarding physical health and safety.
  • Providing guidance on class curriculum to physical education faculty on strength and conditioning PE classes taught in the performance center.
  • Planning and scheduling weight room usage and team schedules in coordination with head coaches, support staff and administrators.

Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of Strength and Conditioning coaching experience
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification required
  • Experience in designing and implementing strength and conditioning programs, preferably at the collegiate level
  • Knowledge of NCAA and Division III rules and regulations related to strength and conditioning training
  • Ability to work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and student-athletes from diverse backgrounds
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to navigate various sporting venues and move heavier loads of 50-100lbs
  • Must be able to properly demonstrate various exercises and techniques to student-athletes with a wide range of abilities and experiences.
