The Development Officer position will be central to securing philanthropy for Williams today, and identify and engage major and principal donors for Williams' future as our new Development Officer.

In this role, you will qualify and engage prospective major donors with a particular focus on alumni approaching their 20th reunion. In your work, you will raise the philanthropic sights of emerging donors and meaningfully engage them with the work of the college. As appropriate, you will cultivate, and solicit donors capable of making gifts of $250,000 or more, now or in the near future.

Responsibilities:

The Development Officer is responsible for qualifying, engaging, and educating a fluid portfolio of ~200 alumni and family prospects, surfacing leads for the major gifts team and helping to grow the annual fund leadership giving population. As part of this work, you'll also teach philanthropy, plan and host events, organize special projects, campaign-related and regional events, and collaborate with colleagues and alumni throughout the Williams community and beyond.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of experience working in, with, and for non-profits (or equivalent combination of education and experience); preference for previous fundraising experience and/or experience in higher education
  • Excellent organizational, oral and written communications skills, and you routinely exhibit the flexibility to creatively conceive and adapt different approaches to varied constituencies
  • Experience as a relationship builder, and experience collaboratively setting goals while planning for their achievement and evaluating outcomes
  • Direct experience in soliciting, negotiating, and closing leadership gifts, and thrive in an entrepreneurial mindset while working as part of a highly functioning team


Application review will begin on August 5, 2024, and will continue until the position is filled. Pay range is from $70,000 to $80,000, commensurate with experience. Job Grade 08. All applications will be reviewed by the search committee.
