Child Care of the Berkshires is a large not-for profit, early care and family support agency, operating a variety of programs throughout Berkshire County, including child care centers, a network of family child care homes, home visiting programs, parent child playgroups, parent education and skill building programs.

Seeking: We are seeking a Child Support Program Director for our Child Support Program

Program Description: The Child Support Program provides comprehensive early education and family support to families who are involved with the Department of Children and Families, families who are homeless and families with parents under age 24. Services include child care in either a CCB contracted family child care home or one of CCB’s child care centers, transportation to/from care, developmental assessments, family support, and connections to community resources, with the goals of positive developmental progress, reducing child maltreatment, and strengthening families. 

BASIC FUNCTION:

Oversees and coordinates supportive services delivered to children who have high risk factors through the Priority Population childcare contracts. Provides on-going supervision and support for child support program staff. Coordinates all referrals and placements of children on the EEC Priority Populations Contract. Responsible for coordination of educational services for children on this contract enrolled in CCB childcare programs. The deliverance of high quality early education services that meet the individual needs of the child and that support and strengthen families is the primary goal. 

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor Degree in social work, early childhood education, special education, or related field. 
  • A minimum of two years of relevant experience working in case management, early childhood education, or related experience with high-risk families and/or children. 
  • Sound knowledge of typical child development and various disorders and impairments that may cause developmental delays. 
  • Ability to assess the development of children of various ages, including infants, toddlers, preschool, and school age children. Working knowledge of various assessment tools.
  • Previous teaching experience in an early childhood preferred, but not required.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to problem solve, case manage, and make appropriate referrals for individual children in order to improve child’s development.
  • Knowledge of local special education, parent and community resources.
  • Positive attitude, understanding and commitment toward Strengthening Families philosophy and family support. 
  • Must be able to document succinctly and accurately and to complete and maintain records. 
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail; ability to multi-task, managing a variety of responsibilities and priorities. 
  • Ability to work with cultural sensitivity to establish rapport with persons of diverse ethnic, racial, cultural, sexual orientation, and /or economic backgrounds; must be able to work with a team in a respectful manner.
  • Must be able to communicate in a friendly, professional manner in person and in writing. 
  • Must be proficient in use of Microsoft or Google Suite programs and must be able to learn new computer programs. 
  • Must be willing to complete a criminal offender’s record check, SORI, DCF background check, fingerprinting and a motor vehicle check. 

SCHEDULE & WORK ENVIRONMENT:  This is a full time (40 hours per week), year round position. 

Work is performed on-site at the offices as well as in the classrooms and/or FCC homes. Some home visits, family events and meetings occur in the community. Employees work under typical office conditions, at a desk or workstation, and the noise level is usually quiet and in the classrooms/FCC homes where the atmosphere is active and loud. Employees are regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk or hear, both in person and by phone; use hands repeatedly to finger, handle and operate standard office equipment; reach with both hands and lift up to 40 pounds, including children.

Ability to communicate with parents/guardians, and professional childcare program staff as well as representatives of other agencies. Ability to physically observe and assess children’s developmental progress while in childcare—either family childcare homes or center based programs. Must be able to provide documentation of good physical and mental health, freedom from communicable diseases, and evidence of up-to-date immunizations. Ability to travel to and from various childcare program sites, and to and from parents’ homes. Ability to occasionally transport children and parents in a car; must have valid driver’s license.

Salary Range: $26 to $28 per hour, commensurate with experience.  Benefits include health, vision, and dental insurance, sick and vacation time as well as paid holidays, and retirement plan.
