The Associate Dental Director (ADD) serves as CHP’s clinical leader for the oral health program and provides clinical direction to all dental services, including primary, secondary, and preventive dental care, and related functional areas. Ensures that the mission and goals of the organization are realized through the professional and effective delivery of oral health services. This person will support CHP’s mission, vision, and values and will adhere to compliance protocols as well as CHP’s policies and procedures

  • Manages the clinical functions of the dental department. In partnership with the Director of Dental Operations, ensure administrative, clinical, and financial obligations and targets are being met.
  • Provide care to patients, including collaborating with other staff to ensure ongoing improvements in clinical productivity, patient satisfaction, and financial outcomes and ensuring accurate and timely delivery of relevant, high quality dental care. Ensure the delivery of competent, accurate, dental care and treatment to assigned patients.
  • Lead and direct the development, implementation, and monitoring of quality dental care services, programs, and initiatives. Ensure that the delivery of all dental care meets or exceeds:
    • the needs and satisfaction of all patients served.
    • all organizational and professional standards.
    • all clinical outcomes and related expectations.
    • all productivity standards, goals, and expectations.
    • all financial metrics associated with the efficient, cost-effective delivery of dental services.
  • Lead and direct the dental program’s quality improvement initiatives. Ensure metrics for clinical outcomes are consistently reviewed, and that the organization is provided clear guidance and direction affecting ongoing improvements in the quality of care.
  • Perform monthly chart audits for dentists and hygienists to ensure proper chart documentation and provide feedback.
  • Ensure the department maintains appropriate clinical staffing levels and participate in interviewing and hiring clinical staff.
  • Coach and direct clinical staff, with clearly defined measures of performance to enhance individual and organizational effectiveness.
  • Lead monthly Dental provider meetings and participate in department staff meetings.
  • Complete annual performance reviews for dentists and hygienists.
  • Ensure all patient records, charts, and related documentation are maintained accurately and consistent with best practices in the dental care field, CHP policies, and within all relevant laws and regulations. Ensure the department meets or exceeds all governmental, regulatory and accreditation standards in all areas of day-to-day operations.
  • Provide advice and counsel to all clinical personnel on matters related to clinical care, patient grievances, and related issues.
  • Meet regularly with the Chief Medical Officer to discuss oral health issues affecting CHP patients and the population of Berkshire County.
  • Acts as the clinical liaison between CHP’s dental and medical providers.
  • Work with the Director of Dental Operations and the finance department to create the annual budget, including helping to set dental productivity targets.
  • Monitor compliance with infection control protocols.
  • Engage in and support efforts to understand and continuously improve patient experience, as measured by patient satisfaction surveys.
  • As needed, travel to CHP locations to monitor operational performance and activity, and to establish relationships.
  • Attends regional and state dental association meetings.
  • As directed by the Chief Executive Officer or the Chief Medical Officer perform other related and/or necessary tasks to achieve organizational and programmatic goals and objectives as appropriate to the practice of dentistry.

Education

  • License to practice dentistry in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and limited license will be considered for candidates who meet all other requirements.
  • Additional advanced degree in business, public health, healthcare administration or related field of study preferred.

 Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of clinical dentistry experience.
  • Demonstrated success in leading and directing a dental care staff of comparable size and scope.
  • Demonstrated expertise related to trends and issues, laws and regulations associated with the delivery of oral health services.
  • Demonstrated success in selecting and developing, motivating, and directing high performing teams.
  • Capacity to envision and develop dental programs consistent with CHP’s mission and a publicly operated care delivery system.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of quality assurance and risk management standards and processes.
  • Familiarity and experience with standards and processes established by JCAHO, CMS, OSHA, CDC, ADA, and regulatory entities.
  • Knowledge of federal regulations governing dental care clinical staff.
  • Knowledge of credentialing process, delineation of clinical privileges and peer review for dental staff.
