Pulmonary and Cardio Rehabilitation Respiratory Therapist

DEFINITION/PRIMARY FUNCTION

• • The Pulmonary and Cardio Rehabilitation Respiratory Therapist is a Registered Respiratory Therapist who is primarily responsible for assisting with the implementation of the outpatient Pulmonary Rehabilitation program at BMC. This includes individual patient assessments, as well as the development and implementation of a comprehensive individualized treatment plan (ITP). The ITP includes the development and implementation of an exercise and education program designed to restore the participant to a higher level of functioning. The Pulmonary and Cardio Rehabilitation Respiratory Therapist assists with the planning, organization, coordination, and implementation of all clinical aspects of the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program including supervision of outpatient exercise sessions. The Pulmonary and Cardio Rehabilitation Respiratory Therapist is responsible for the accurate implementation of department-related policies and procedures as well as maintenance of safety standards. The Pulmonary and Cardio Rehabilitation Respiratory Therapist provides expertise relating to the care of the pulmonary patient. In addition, the Pulmonary and Cardio Rehabilitation Respiratory Therapist assists with the implementation of all programs within the Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation department.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum qualifications are required unless stated otherwise.)

• • Experience:
    • Minimum of 1-2 years acute clinical respiratory therapist experience required.
    • Experience in pulmonary rehabilitation and adult fitness preferred.
    • Patient education experience working with pulmonary populations.
  • Education and Training:
    • Graduate of AMA approved program of Respiratory Therapy, registry level.
  • License, Certification & Registration:
    • CPR
    • MARTL - MA Respiratory Therapist license
    • Certified by the National Board of Respiratory Care preferred
  • Other Requirements:
    • Documented continuing education in the field of pulmonary rehabilitation/care of the pulmonary patient.
    • Ability to use Defibrillator, stethoscope, sphygmomanometer, glucometer, computer, FOX machines, telemetry monitors, treadmills, exercise bicycles, arm ergometers, rowing machines, NuStep, stair climbers, ellipticals, recumbent bike, hand weights, exertubes, nebulizers, portable oxygen tanks, peak flow meters and additional exercise equipment.
