Hancock Elementary School 

Position open for start of 2024-2025 school year

The Hancock School District seeks a School Nurse to work full-time at the Hancock Central School, a Pk-6 building.

Qualifications: 

  • Valid Massachusetts Registered Nurse or Nurse Practitioners license.
  • Must meet or be eligible to meet the certification requirements as developed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
  • Valid CPR certification, including AED.
  • Experience in pediatrics/adolescent medicine.
  • Ability to function autonomously in a clinical capacity.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills 
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, parents, teaching and support staff, administration, and the community.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work VISA in United States required

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assess the health needs of students and develop individualized health care plans as needed.
  • Manage a comprehensive school health program consistent with the Massachusetts guidelines, regulations, and statutes governing nursing and school health.
  • Organize and implement state-mandated programs such as immunization surveillance and screening programs (vision, hearing, postural, etc.)
  • Provide health care services to students, including administering medication, monitoring vital signs, and managing chronic health conditions.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for students.
  • Collaborate with parents, teachers, and other school staff to ensure that students receive appropriate health care services.
  • Provide health education and support to students and families on topics such as nutrition, exercise, and disease prevention.
  • Ensure that the school environment is safe and healthy for students, and make recommendations for improvements as needed.
  • Participate in meetings and committees related to student health and wellness.
  • Complete all required state and local paperwork.
  • Maintain current knowledge of health care practices and regulations related to school nursing.
  • Provide formal health education and instruction to children within classrooms, under direction of the Principal.

Terms of Employment: 185 days.
