JOB SUMMARY:  The R&D Engineer is a key member of the Engineering team, working to advance new products, testing, as well as supporting internal Lenco departments with research of materials and components of vehicles in the field. The individual in this position will have understanding and exposure to a wide application of technical principles, theories, and concepts. The R&D Engineer provides solutions, independently or as part of a team, which are imaginative, thorough, and practical to a wide range of automotive design and manufacturing problems and challenges.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop technical solutions to Engineering problems using sound engineering principles, utilizing experimental, computational, and analytical methods
  • Drive prototype designs from concept to production while interacting with other team members to develop design requirements and create product specifications and production ready products.
  • Support material/design/process changes to the product line through design control process, with well-documented research/analyses.
  • Write, implement, and lead test plans for product or project design evaluation, design verification, validation, vendor interactions, materials specifications, and component specifications.
  • Review listing of components for computed BoMs, SolidWorks BoMs, weldment BoMs, and weldment cut lists to facilitate data export.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of Lenco products, processes, and industry standards through formal and informal training, technical review, customer/vendor visits and general business exposure.
  • Assist production and support departments with problem resolution.
  • Develop a strong working knowledge of each model year of the Lenco BearCat, BEAR and other vehicles as required.
  • Support Engineering team by researching parts and components for rebuilds and product installs.
  • Support Parts sales and Tech services / Aftersales teams with research for parts components of vehicles in the field.
  • Supports Purchasing Dept with specifying and resourcing discontinued parts.
  • Work with vendors and suppliers to research improved products and services.
  • Design, develop and test and/or source and cost-justify various product/design improvements.
  • Carry out process improvement, problem resolution, and project management.
  • Complete tasks in a timely manner as assigned.

  • Sales, Production, Quality, Tech Services, and Purchasing Departments

EXPERIENCE:

  • Two plus (2+) years of R&D experience
  • Three plus (3+) years in an Engineering role in a manufacturing environment.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or related Engineering field
