Gardener will assist with day-to-day operations installing and maintaining natural plantings. Work sites range from more manicured plantings to seeded meadows that are lightly managed. Work can be physically demanding and/or tedious, requiring physical stamina, repetitive motions and fine motor skills. Work will include but is not limited to: - Weeding
- Planting perennial plugs
- Planting small shrubs and trees
- Prepping planting areas by digging up turf and other weeds
- Loading and unloading trucks and trailers
- Operating BCS tractor with various implements including tiller, harrow, scissor and flail mowers, hay rake.
- Selectively cutting meadows using string trimmers.
- Removing woody invasive plant growth using chain saws, backpack brush cutters, and hand tools.
- Plant propagation, including seeding plug trays and potting up plants of various sizes
- Watering as needed
- Our operation is fully organic—this position involves no application of herbicides or pesticides.
Additional Notes Previous gardening experience and knowledge of native plants and ecosystems is welcome but not required. On job training in horticulture, plant identification, and equipment operation will be provided. This position can be full or part-time depending on the applicant. This is a seasonal position with the possibility to become a year-round position with the right fit.
