Child Care of the Berkshires is a large not-for profit, early care and family support agency, operating a variety of programs throughout Berkshire County, including child care centers, a network of family child care homes, home visiting programs, parent child playgroups, parent education and skill building programs.

Its mission is to promote and strengthen families through the provision of high quality child care services to families whose parents are working or in training or, for any number of reasons, cannot adequately care for the children as well as other types of social and educational services which directly affect families and their well being.

We are looking for an energetic, dependable, and caring individual who enjoys working with school-age children and can build positive relationships with children, families, and coworkers. The ideal candidate is organized, creative, and able to lead activities while maintaining a safe and supportive classroom environment.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Supervising and engaging groups of school-age children 
  • Planning and leading age-appropriate activities, games, and enrichment opportunities 
  • Creating a welcoming, inclusive, and positive environment 
  • Supporting children’s social-emotional growth and positive behavior 
  • Maintaining health, safety, and licensing standards 
  • Communicating professionally with families and team members 
  • Assisting with daily program routines, transitions, and snacks
Requirements:

  1. Must be EEC Group Leader qualified; at a minimum, 9 months of previous experience working with school age children. 

2. Prefer degree in early childhood education or related field or advanced training and relevant experience.

3. Ability to implement nurturing, stimulating, and developmentally appropriate curriculum activities.

4. Ability to supervise children through good vision and hearing capabilities.

5. Ability to establish rapport with persons of different ethnic, cultural, and economic backgrounds.

6. Ability to deal tactfully and respectfully with parents, staff and persons in the community.

7. Ability to report for work on time and demonstrate regular attendance

8. Able to provide documentation of good physical and mental health, freedom from communicable diseases and evidence of up to date immunizations.

9. Ability to walk, stand, sit, stoop, lift, and carry children weighing up to 50 lbs.; ability to engage in a variety of physical activities with the children.

10. Ability to handle calmly stressful and emergency situations.

11. Ability to accept constructive feedback and direction and to implement changes as needed for continued professional growth.

12. Ability to process, analyze and integrate information and make appropriate decisions concerning program policies and procedures; must demonstrate good decision making skills.
