SEEKING:  We are seeking a full time Assistant School Age Group Leader for our Magic Seasons Toddler, Preschool & School Age Program.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:  The  Magic Seasons Toddler, Preschool & School Age Program provides care for toddlers, preschoolers and school-age children in a renovated elementary school in North Adams. The Center is licensed by the Department of Early Education and Care for 47 children.

BASIC FUNCTION:  Responsible for assisting with planning and executing an active, nurturing, and stimulating school age program in line with the philosophy and goals of Child Care of the Berkshires.

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be willing to become EEC Group Leader qualified; at a minimum, 9 months of previous experience working with school age children, 3 months which must be in a licensed school age program. Prefer degree in early childhood education or related field or advanced training and relevant experience.
  • Ability to implement nurturing, stimulating, and developmentally appropriate curriculum activities.
  • Ability to supervise children through good vision and hearing capabilities.
  • Ability to establish rapport with persons of different ethnic, cultural, and economic backgrounds.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and respectfully with parents, staff and persons in the community.
  • Ability to report for work on time and demonstrate regular attendance.
  • Able to provide documentation of good physical and mental health, free from communicable diseases.
  • Ability to handle calmly stressful and emergency situations.
  • Ability to accept constructive feedback and direction and to implement changes as needed for continued professional growth.
  • Ability to process, analyze and integrate information and make appropriate decisions concerning program policies and procedures; must demonstrate good decision-making skills.
  • Must be able to pass a background record check successfully.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:

Must have good physical health to meet demands of teaching: ability to walk, stand, sit, stoop, and lift and carry children weighing up to 50 lbs as needed; ability to move quickly, maintain visual contact with broad area, and get up and down from the floor, and engage in a variety of physical activities with the children. Must be mature and have good mental health in order to meet the mental demands of working with children.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Employees work in a classroom setting, and the noise level is sometimes high. Employees are regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; reach with both hands and lift up to 50 pounds.

WORK SCHEDULE AND HOURS:  This is a 40 hours per week, year round non-exempt position. The center is open Monday through Friday, schedule will be based on an 8 hour opening or closing shift. The School Age program runs before and after school as well as during school vacations/summer with several off-site field trips. Assistant School Age Group Leaders will float to other classrooms based on needs of the center and when the School Agers aren’t at the center. Some evening work may be needed to attend training sessions. 

SALARY RANGE: $18.59 - $20.40/hour commensurate with education and experience. Benefits include medical, vision and dental insurance, sick and vacation time, as well as paid holidays, paid closure days and retirement plan and child care reimbursement.
