Williams College seeks an Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement for Lifelong Learning to develop and manage alumni education programs, including Alumni Travel Study, online and in-person events, and digital-first offerings. A creative, energetic, and empathic team, Alumni Engagement is dedicated to our alumni communities and seeks candidates with strong communication and technology skills, attention to detail and administrative workflow, and the ability to manage multiple programs and priorities simultaneously.

This role involves strategic thinking, program execution, and collaboration with faculty, alumni, academic departments, campus partners, and external vendors. The Assistant Director will integrate learning opportunities into existing alumni programs-such as Reunion, Fall Weekends, and Regional Association events-while leveraging technology and communications tools to further develop alumni learning experiences. Ideal candidates should have a strong background in program management, event coordination, marketing and communications, and/or educational travel.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Executive Director of Alumni Relations, the Assistant Director creates and promotes opportunities for alumni lifelong learning through the Alumni Travel Study program, in-person programming and events, online programming, and digital-first resources. Cumulatively, these opportunities allow alumni, parents, and friends in the Williams network to regularly experience the distinct intellectual environment for which the college is known. Such opportunities sustain the educational mission of the institution long after graduation, while generating goodwill, cultivating and stewarding alumni for volunteerism and philanthropy, and encouraging lifelong relationships with the College.

This position works in partnership and collaboration across Alumni Engagement and the Office of College Relations, and with cross-campus partners including the Dean of the Faculty, Communications, Winter Study, and academic departments to highlight faculty and alumni expertise, existing educational resources, and institutional priorities. The Assistant Director works collaboratively with colleagues to administer strategically-informed goals for alumni lifelong learning, while overseeing efforts to infuse alumni learning opportunities throughout existing programs.

Specific responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
  • Managing all aspects of Alumni Learning programs, including Purple Prose Book Club and the Alumni Travel Study Program;
  • Developing relationships with faculty and expert alumni;
  • Managing relationships with third-party vendors and operators;
  • Mitigating alumni travel risk and serving as on-call contact for emergencies as they arise;
  • Collaborating closely with campus, division, and team partners to develop and leverage learning programs and related initiatives, resources, etc.;
  • Developing learning events (virtual and in-person), coordinating event logistics and details as needed;
  • Creating event registrations and tracking event attendance;
  • Handling financial administration, budget tracking, bill pay;
  • Managing information and processing data across a variety of platforms;
  • Providing insight and feedback to colleagues, contributing to a team culture of continual learning and improvement;
  • Managing email campaigns, event invitations, newsletters, print collateral, and website maintenance;


Qualifications
  • At least a bachelor's degree and 2-5 years relevant experience in educational travel, business operations, marketing/communications, or comparable field of endeavor
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to work with broadly diverse groups of alumni, faculty, staff, students, vendors and providers, etc.
  • Organizational and problem solving skills with an ability to prioritize and execute multiple competing projects and tasks
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including email correspondence and proofreading
  • Comfort in an environment where most work is done electronically, with demonstrated interest in learning new systems and platforms
  • Experience with financial reconciliation or willingness to learn
  • Ability to transport supplies in support of events and mailings; ability to navigate campus and to travel as required.


Application review will begin on April 9, 2025, and will continue until the position is filled. Pay range is 75,000 - 85,000, commensurate with experience.
