Operation, maintenance and repair of high-pressure steam-plant to insure safe, reliable and efficient operation.



DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



1. Operates, maintains and repairs boilers and all plant accessories and auxiliaries. Perform periodic checks of all operating equipment to ensure safe operation during assigned shifts.



2. Maintains Plant and State Operators Logs. Responsible for recording operational, maintenance and repair tasks as well as any unusual events.



3. Performs chemical test on boiler and condensate water and adds required chemicals as needed to sustain proper water quality.



4. Takes and records accurate meter readings of pressures, temperatures, levels, meters, etc. and enters same into the Daily Plant Log Sheet. Reviews data to determine any significant changes in plant operations.



5. Prepare boilers for annual internal inspections including cleaning, lock-out tag-out, etc.



6. Operates, maintains and repairs steam turbo-generator and related equipment.



7. Operates, maintains and repairs underground steam and condensate piping systems.



8. Keeps power plant clean and in good order to insure a safe work place.



9. Operates (via Building Automation System), maintains and repairs HVAC-R systems on campus to provide proper environmental control and safety.



10. May supervise others in boiler room related equipment repairs, to insure quality control.



11. Follow all Standard Operating and Environmental Health and Safety procedures.



12. Assist other Facilities and Public Safety employees with after-hours calls.



Job Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED AT HIRE:



1. Knowledge of Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 146 and 522 Code of Mass. Regulations.



2. Willingness to work any shift.



3. Ability to perform heavy manual labor and climb vertical ladders.



4. Ability to keep a written log.



5. Must be mechanically inclined.



6. Working knowledge of heating, ventilating and cooling systems.



7. Work unsupervised and react to emergency situations to maintain the safety of the plant.



8. Possess a Massachusetts Third Class Engineer or higher grade license
