HOOSAC VALLEY REGIONAL SCHOOL DISTRICT - ATHLETIC COACH DESCRIPTION: Hoosac Valley Regional High School Athletic Coach is responsible for developing and attaining a high level of skill and self-discipline and instilling values of teamwork, fair play, mutual respect, and attributes of good sportsmanship with all student-athletes. HVRSD Athletic Coach should foster enjoyment and an awareness of the lifetime benefit of healthy physical activity, recreation, and athletic endeavor. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Guide participants in the skills necessary for growth and achievement in that sport; Design practices to help to reduce the incidence of injury; Enforce discipline and sportsmanlike behavior among athletes at all times; Establish and oversee penalties for breach of behavior or sportsmanship standards; Work closely with the Athletic Director in scheduling interscholastic contests; Communicate with parents and physicians regarding the status of injured athletes; Advise athletes on appropriate flexibility, strengthening, and conditioning programs to help prevent injuries and optimize performance;• Recommend the purchase of needed equipment, supplies, and uniforms, as appropriate; Complete all mandatory trainings as required. GENERAL EXPECTATIONS: Maintains the trust and confidence of students; Works independently with general guidance from supervisors; Maintains cooperative relationships with students and adults; Manages time to accomplish multiple tasks and meet deadlines; Communicates effectively both orally and in writing EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or its equivalent; Successful experience in coaching or supervising students/athletes; Knowledge and skill in teaching fundamentals of the sport or activity.
