Williams Human Resources seeks applications for a newly re-envisioned position of HR Generalist. Under the general direction of the Director for Employee Engagement & Experience, the HR Generalist is responsible for a wide range of human resources functions to enhance and streamline HR operations. This role is key in offering expert consultation to both managers and staff on various employee relations and HR matters. The HR Generalist provides comprehensive support, which includes handling transactions, answering inquiries, introducing new ideas and strategies, and facilitating effective communication. This role assists managers in achieving departmental objectives while ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations - efforts are crucial in maintaining smooth HR processes and addressing employee needs in a timely and professional manner..

This is a forward-facing position requiring extensive outreach both internally and externally. As such, hybrid on-site/remote work arrangements may be available for one day per week for employees based in NY, MA, CT, or VT; subject to review and revision as policy evolves.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Serve as the go-to resource for employees and managers seeking information or clarification on HR policies, workplace procedures, and organizational rules.
- Provide support to employees addressing a wide range of issues, including workplace conditions, interpersonal conflicts, and career development. Handle sensitive matters with empathy and discretion.
- Act as a primary resource for workplace conflicts, facilitating processes to resolve and foster a positive work environment.
- Work closely with managers to assess and confirm the correct classification of workers as employees or contractors.
- Provide guidance related to managing non-student temporary hires, including the evaluation of their employment needs.
- Maintain a current and thorough knowledge of all federal and state laws and regulations governing employment, as well as all College policies and practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree with a minimum of two years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of Federal, state and local laws and ordinances governing recruitment, employment and equity for faculty and staff.
- Experience with recruitment technology platforms and applicant tracking systems (HCM) required. Experience with Excel, Word, Powerpoint and Google suite.
- Solid written and verbal communication skills; clear, concise, and professional, including the ability to address small and large groups.
- Solid organizational skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple demands
- Understanding and commitment to build a diverse and inclusive community, and ability to work professionally with a diverse population.
- An "out of the box" mindset with the desire to improve processes, tools, and standards
- Ability to work independently and as a contributing member of a team.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Must exhibit excellent customer service, integrity, and confidentiality when working with both internal and external customers
- Human Resources certifications (e.g. SHRM-CP, SPHR, PHR, etc.) are preferred.
Application review will begin on November 8, 2024, and will continue until the position is filled. Pay range is from $64,000 to $72,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
