MASS MoCA seeks a Graphic Designer, Marketing & Retail with a desire to work in a dynamic, mission-driven, museum environment. Working with MASS MoCA's brand standards, the Graphic Designer, Marketing & Retail reports to the Sr Manager, Brand and Graphic Design to design and produce marketing and promotional materials in support of attracting audiences to and patrons for MASS MoCA’s visual arts, performing arts and public programs. The Graphic Designer follows creative guidelines to prepare and present artwork in a team atmosphere, and completes proposed changes and edits to produce finished artwork of high quality for print and digital reproduction. 

The successful candidate will enjoy being part of a team that takes a collaborative approach to making art in a fast-paced, highly adaptive environment. The candidate must match a high standard of institutional design and pragmatic know-how and work efficiently. Proven experience managing multiple projects with diverse working groups and simultaneous deadlines is crucial. The candidate must maintain a consistent level of quality and be a collaborative team player.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Create and design various marketing and promotional materials for print and digital collateral, direct mail, social media and website/app graphics, and merchandise in support of live events, festivals and programs
  • Ensure projects are completed on brand, on budget and on schedule
  • Prioritize and manage multiple projects within design specifications and budget restrictions
  • Perform retouching and manipulation of images
  • Work with a wide range of media and use graphic design software
  • Coordinate with printers to request estimates and production timelines
  • Collaborate with Graphic Designer, Exhibitions on museum wayfinding
  • Support Campus Tenant design materials as needed
Requirements:

Experience/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design or Visual Communication, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of in-house or agency experience (museum/nonprofit experience preferred)
  • Confidence to inquire about needed information including the who (audience), what (format) and when (timeline) of each design request
  • Expert typographic and photography cropping and retouching skills
  • Ability to pair photography with editorial concepts
  • Experience successfully designing within existing brand style guides
  • Experience requesting printing quotes and managing production process from concept, through design to final production
  • Strong knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite; competence with Google Office
  • Utilize project management system to track, organize and share information with communications and content team
  • Proficiency in both print (collateral, direct mail, advertising) and digital (web, digital display and social media) content development preferred
  • Be able to demonstrate graphic design skills with a strong portfolio of work

Minimum starting rate $25/hour
