Job Summary: The Disability Success Coach, reporting to the Associate Director of Disability Resources, consistent with a student's plan for accommodations, provides support to students with physical, learning, and or psychological disabilities. Success Coach's emphasize the development of compensatory strategies and use specific teaching modalities taking into consideration specific strengths and weaknesses of diverse learners.

Position Responsibilities

Provide success coaching to students with documented disabilities including conducting initial intake and assessment of learning. Administer and interpret the Learning and Study Skills Assessment (LASSI).
Work one-on-one to support assigned caseload of students. Address learning strategies, study skills, executive function systems, and other identified problem areas. Monitor student progress and provide targeted interventions consistent with the learner's individual accommodation plan.
Routinely consult Associate Director regarding instructional methods and/or materials necessary (including Assistive Technology) to meet the specific needs of individual students registered with the Disability Office.
Recommend for consideration adjustments to the student's plan for accommodation as appropriate.
Refer students to Assistive Technology within Disability Resources as appropriate.
Assist students in designing and implementing a success plan that includes goals and objectives that address need area(s).
Build rapport and trust with students to support successful goal completion; monitor student progress and provide targeted interventions. Modify rapport and trust building techniques as needed based on individual student needs.
Integrate building self-advocacy skills into all coaching sessions. Empower students to reflect and take ownership of their decisions.
Have and apply knowledge of all current resources available to students at the college, and community based resources, to enhance their educational experience, persistence, and general well-being
Maintain detailed coaching logs designed to track contact hours, issues and challenges, and outcomes of all coaching sessions. Submit completed logs weekly, or immediately upon request, with time sheet.

Technical responsibilities

Knowledge of current technologies including word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software, specifically Microsoft Office applications.
Proficient computer skills to assist students with the college's learning management system (CANVAS), planning tools (DegreeWorks) and student record system (Banner). Maintain updated student data, including documentation of student interactions, in student record system (Argos).
2 years of combined experience providing academic and/or life coaching, teaching, advocacy, personal development, case management or mentoring of students.
A demonstrated understanding of learning differences and devising appropriate strategies for accommodating them.
Strong communication, interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
Demonstrated skill in use of computer software, including Microsoft Office products; ability to learn new systems specific to higher education (Banner, etc.).
Experience managing confidential student information with tact, discretion, and in compliance with FERPA and college policy.
Possess an earned Bachelor's degree in: education, counseling, psychology or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning. Preference will be given to individuals who possess an earned Master's degree.

Additional Information:

This is a part-time (16 hour/week), 10 month position at $18.00/hour. This is a grant funded position. Continuation beyond the first year is grant dependent.
