Williams College is pleased to announce the opening for a Director of Technical Services. As the Director of Technical Services you are responsible for strategic reporting for the Office of College Relations (OCR) software systems, for the integration between software/database systems, and for working closely with end users to provide enhancements and select new software. In this hands-on technical role, you will be responsible for delivering reports and integrations through programming, project management, mentorship, code review sessions, task delegation, and providing technical direction to multiple software developers including two direct reports. 

You will play an important role in the migration from the existing fundraising database of record to the selection and implementation of a new, more modern product, ensuring that reporting and integrations with other OCR tools are updated to work with the new system. This includes working with the vendors to ensure that the SQL Server reporting data warehouse is upgraded and continues to provide first-rate reports to the OCR teams.  You will also work with the AVP of Advancement Operations to develop a transparent and detailed roadmap for existing and future priorities in order to best serve the Office of College Relations information needs today and into the future.

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred.
  • At least 5 years of highly technical experience, with progressively increasing responsibility including at least 2 years in a management role 
  • Mastery of programming languages such as SQL (Oracle or SQL Server) and SSRS in order to produce detailed reports and analyses.
  • Demonstrated experience with fundraising databases such as Advance, Raiser’s Edge, and others which capture biographic, prospect, and donation data for non-profits.
  • Demonstrated project management experience including working with end users to define requirements, writing specifications to produce code, and performing programming, testing, and documentation to bring solutions into production for end users. Demonstrated ability to organize and direct projects to completion in a demanding environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with tools such as Tableau, PowerBI, or R in developing data visualizations and dashboards to support non-profit or higher-education environments is a plus.
  • Supervisory experience of professional staff; ability to motivate, train, and support team members.
  • Ability to work effectively within a diverse community and demonstrated understanding of how issues of diversity, equity and inclusion impact decisions around systems set up.
  • Excellent oral and interpersonal skills, including diplomacy required to work effectively with colleagues across the institution.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work, and manage multiple, diverse and competing priorities while meeting deadlines.
