Carr serves homeowners, contractors, commercial customers, institutions and government agencies throughout the state of Massachusetts, Connecticut and surrounding areas of New York State and Vermont. Carr offers over 40,000 different products including paint, tools, hardware, electrical, plumbing, outdoor living and lawn and garden and so much more.
We seek a Part-time all-round Small Engine Mechanic to work in our Pittsfield, division of Carr Hardware. The primary goal is to diagnose and fix small engines. Candidate should have a working knowledge of 2 and 4 cycle engines, pumps and hydraulics. Candidates must possess a strong attention to detail, results oriented whilst delivering outstanding customer service.
Responsibilities of the Small Engine Mechanic
Repair and maintain gasoline engines used to power equipment such as portable saws, lawn mowers, generators, and compressors.
Ability to adjusts points, valves, carburetors, distributors, and spark plug gaps, using feeler gauges.
Perform routine maintenance such as cleaning and oiling parts, honing cylinders, and tuning ignition systems.
Obtain problem descriptions from customers, and assist with the preparation of cost estimates for repairs.
Tests and inspects engines to determine malfunctions, to locate missing and broken parts, and to verify repairs, using diagnostic instruments.
Repair or replace defective parts such as magnetos, water pumps, gears, pistons, and carburetors, using hand tools.
Reassemble and reinstall components and engines following repairs
Discuss equipment issues, maintenance plans, and work performed with customers as required
Keep records of inspections, test results, work performed, and parts used

Prior experience in Small Engine Repair
