Child Care of the Berkshires is a large not-for profit, early care and family support agency, operating a variety of programs throughout Berkshire County, including child care centers, a network of family child care homes, home visiting programs, parent child playgroups, parent education and skill building programs.

The ParentChild+ Program is a service of Child Care of the Berkshires, which provides a variety of child care and programming for parents with young children, including home visiting services, parent education, play-and learn groups, parent education, concrete parent support, connections with community resources and parent leadership opportunities to implement the Strengthening Families philosophy. Services are delivered to families with children under the age of 8 years by a team of professionals.

The ParentChild+ Program models for parents of toddlers and preschool-aged children pre-reading skills and language development skills, through visits (virtual or in person) and gifts of books and toys.

The Early Learning Specialist (Home Visitor) is responsible for an assigned caseload of families with young children. S/he will promote early literacy by modeling developmentally appropriate verbal interaction for the parent/provider, and encouraging nurturing verbal interactions with families. S/he will plan activities using books and toys as the curriculum. S/he will travel to families’ homes, and will provide the curriculum. S/he will document all visits. 

The ParentChild+ Home Visitor must have experience working with young children and/or families. Being a parent yourself is very valuable expereince.

S/he must possess positive attitudes toward early literacy, young children, parenting and/or family child care. S/he must be able to read simple children’s books and demonstrate playful interactions with children. Must be able to establish and maintain supportive, non-judgmental rapport with both adults and children. The Home Visitor must have flexibility in her/his schedule, in order to meet the needs of busy parents. They must be able to drive (or be driven) to sites in the catchment area and to transport books and play materials to homes. Must be able to document visits electronically.

Must be flexible and willing to use digital communications including texting and video chatting, as well as digital platforms including YouTube, Facebook, Zoom, and Google. Must be able to successfully complete a Criminal Background check.

COMPENSATION:
Home Visitors are paid on an hourly basis based on weekly meetings and the number of visits they have had with families and the accompanying documentation.
