The HR Generalist provides high quality HR expertise and support with a focus on coordinating full-cycle recruitment efforts to ensure an exceptional candidate experience. The generalist will be the primary contact and coordinator for onboarding, including staff development and DEAI work to promote the museum’s goals in support of diversity and EEO missions. The generalist assists with employee relations and supporting daily HR operations, with the goal of maintaining a positive working environment to enhance the employee experience.  

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Recruiting 

  • Develops, implements, and maintains a full-cycle recruitment process that supports the museum’s talent and diversity strategy
  • Builds applicant sources and maintains recruitment sites to obtain culturally diverse and talented applicant pool, including, local and community networks, colleges, employment agencies, recruiters, social media and internet sites
  • Assists managers in updating job postings
  • Posts jobs internally and externally, maintains external job posts and recruitment memberships
  • Acts as a liaison between managers and candidates by managing communication with applicants about the recruitment process, screens candidate resumes, arranges and conducts initial interviews, assists managers with scheduling and conducting interviews, answers candidate questions, obtains employment references, extends job offers, and notifies job applicants who are not selected
  • Responsible for researching, attending and participating in recruitment opportunities, including job fair events and/or conferences, networking to develop and build relationships

Onboarding and Staff Development

  • Assists in developing and implementing an impactful onboarding program that goes beyond the first day; monitors the program’s effectiveness and contributes to its ongoing improvement
  • Schedules and facilitates monthly new employee orientation sessions for all new hires. Works closely with the HR Coordinator to ensure that all new hires participate in the monthly orientation program. 
  • Coordinates departing employee activities, including conducting exit interviews
  • Assists the HR department and department managers with developing, implementing and scheduling staff training
  • Serves as the institutions DEAI subject matter expert and representative for internal and external/community initiatives
  • Works with managers on an efficient and ongoing performance management process
  • Collaborates with Director and Associate Director regarding employee engagement, diversity and inclusion and employee communication.

General HR + Admin

  • Facilitates a great employee experience; acts as a day-to-day HR partner; act as a point of contact for staff regarding human resources policies and regulations
  • Assist with the interpretation of employment policies including counseling employees regarding internal transfer requests, promotions and career development as well as other issues pertaining to museum employment
  • Counsel managers on handling sensitive employee relations issues, including coaching, grievances, disciplinary action process, documentation and other related matters. 
  • Assist with conducting, investigating, analyzing and reporting employee relation incidents
  • Utilizes data and analytics to design, generate and produce reports, develop and maintain an HR dashboard, and supporting various data requests 
  • Continually stays informed on local, state, and federal labor and employment laws 
  • Actively participates in museum committees as needed

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Management/ Administration or an HR-related field is required, with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in Human Resources or a related field
  • Must have significant experience and proven success with recruitment, including interviewing job applicants
  • Knowledge of and experience across a broad range of HR disciplines and practices, including employment and labor law
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and in conjunction with HR team
  • Collaborative approach to working with managers and staff, and must be able to build and maintain employee, manager, community and business relationships
  • Must be a detailed oriented problem solver, with strong decision-making, analytical skills and an ability to multitask
  • Must be highly skilled in generating reports, organization, scheduling and/or coordinating events
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office including word, Excel. Experience with HR databases or an HRIS system.
