COVID-19 Public Health Nurse Manager

Under the direction of the Health Department director, oversees COVID-19 communicable disease surveillance and control services.



  • Responsible for evaluating public health nursing services and community health resources for COVID-19 response.
  • Runs daily MAVEN report for new COVID-19 cases. Assigns cases to Contact Tracing team.
  • Maintains an adequate Contact Tracing team to conduct case investigation, communication and support to individual cases, contacts and clusters; Instructs, trains, recruits and reassigns personnel as necessary.
  • Prepares COVID -19 updates with relevant information and data for Director, Mayor and Board of Health; makes recommendations regarding local COVID-19 policy.
  • Responsible for assessing COVID-19 vaccinations, and initiating outreach and services as needed. 
  • Assess need for COVID-19 education and outreach efforts and initiate activities within the community.
  • Handles media inquiries and participates in interviews pertaining to COVID-19 in Pittsfield as requested by the Director.
  • Initiate recommendations as to possible improvements in procedures, methods, and objectives; Facilitates communication with community and healthcare organizations to streamline procedures.
  • Participate in weekly MDPH COVID-19 MAVEN and LBOH webinars.
  • Participate in regular virtual meetings with the Alliance PHN team and the Berkshire County LBOH.
  • Schedule and develop agenda for weekly Pittsfield Contact Tracing team virtual meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.


  • Education and /or Experience:
    • Licensed Registered Nurse by the MA Board of Registration with a minimum of one year experience in Public Health or community nursing.
    • Candidates with a Bachelor of Science degree preferred.
    • Minimum of five years of progressive responsibilities in personnel management, budgeting and operational procedures.  
  • Proven leadership, planning, management, organizational, communication and supervisory skills; ability to conceptualize and implement goals and objectives for public health nursing services.
  • Ability to interpret and enforce regulations firmly, tactfully, and impartially and interact effectively with the public;
  • Ability to develop and adjust data systems and prepare reports.
  • Proficient computer skills, including use of various software programs unique to the public health department as well as Microsoft office and virtual meeting programs.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated; ability to perform multiple tasks in a detailed, timely, accurate, and organized manner.
  • Ability to apply principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; requires strong communication and customer service skills to work effectively with a diverse population; Ability to deal effectively with the public, staff, outside agencies and organizations, elected officials, media etc.; Effective presentation skills


Work is performed under typical office conditions; other work is performed under varying field conditions for mobile COVID-19 vaccine clinics and potential exposure to communicable diseases. 


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, use hand to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand: walk; climb or balance, to, kneel, crouch or crawl. Must lift/push/pull up to 10lbs.


Monday – Friday, 35 hours per week, 8:30 – 4:00


$63,382.15 -$82,396.80
