Description:

The Health & Wellness Coordinator will oversee and lead the implementation of community health work to support integration of environmental, policy and systems changes to advance active living, healthy eating and sustainable systematic change in Northern Berkshire. The Health & Wellness Coordinator will also oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of health and wellness programming through nbCC. 

Requirements:

Responsibilities: (include but are not limited to)

  • Oversee and run the nbCC Bike Collective:
    • Supervise volunteers, interns, and community members who are working at or in the Bike Collective, as appropriate.
    • Coordinate donations and the reception of donations for the bike collective.
    • Maintain inventory of bikes and bike parts.
    • Coordinate hours of operations, scheduling of volunteers, and community outreach, community bike rides and bike related events for nbCC.
  • Fulfill the role of Community Health Worker:
    • Provide basic education and assessments in individual and group sessions, screenings, brief interventions and/or facilitate referrals to and from the local health system and other community-based resources.
    • Provide education and advocacy to assist community members in navigating the health care system, housing assistance, transportation and other community needs, as appropriate.
    • Utilize the techniques of self-management, motivational interviewing, teach back, and other engagement and retention techniques.
    • Participate in on-site and off-site trainings, continuing education programs and in-service trainings to meet CHW certification and the needs of the community.
    • Organize, recruit and facilitate Working on Wellbeing Workshops and healthy lifestyle programming.
  • Oversee and lead the implementation of the Food Access Collaborative including:
    • Organize and facilitate quarterly meetings and newsletter.
    • Attend statewide meetings/conferences as identified by local, regional and state food policy councils and funders.
    • Coordinate special projects or events as needed.
    • Establish and maintain a pulse for all health and wellness related happenings in North Berkshire communities.
    • Maintain and grow relations between farms, emergency food system locations and community members.
  • Be a catalyst and convener for current and new healthy eating and active living initiatives in North Berkshire. Provide leadership and promote integration of existing efforts to improve active living and healthy eating activities by local municipalities community organizations.
  • Provide grant administration oversight, complete all grant administration and reporting requirements. Work closely with grant evaluation staff to implement, collect and report on all evaluative activities associated with the work plan.
  • Work with the nbCC Communication Coordinator and local media outlets to develop and release print and media press on the health & wellness initiatives, as well as the on-going development and implement a marketing and education campaign to promote healthy living in north Berkshire.
  • Outreach, develop and maintain community contacts and relationships to maximize collaborative efforts to advance active living and healthy eating in Northern Berkshire.
  • Ensure that the principals of health equity, anti-racism, and community-driven decision-making are integrated into every aspect of the work.
  • Support & attend any nbCC event, activity, or program deemed as “all hands on deck” or as assigned.
  • Maintain an organized calendar schedule of appointments and tasks, maintain accurate documentation of client records, mileage, and expenses, and complete all documentation as required by nbCC. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a human services related field with a minimum of 3 years of experience with the identified population.
  • Bilingual, a plus
  • CHW certification preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of related experience in the field of health and wellness.
  • Experience establishing and implementing policies and strategies designed to change patterns of health behaviors of local residents.
  • Creativity and initiative in developing activities and programs.
  • Ability to establish highly effective working relationships with municipal leaders, community partners and residents.
  • Knowledge of local community resources and community-based providers, state human service systems, and familiarity with local school districts and key players.
  • Basic knowledge of Asset Based Community Development preferred.
  • Comfort with public speaking, convening, and facilitation skills.
  • Experience and comfort working with all types of people in a variety of groups.
  • Cultural competency.
  • Commitment to working in the community to help address key issues.
  • Demonstrated maturity and self-awareness as it relates to working 1:1 with individuals in the community.
  • Understanding and compassion for the needs, limitations, barriers, and capacities of the identified population.

Work Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license and insured automobile. Ability and willingness to drive in inclement weather and in rural locations in the northern Berkshire region, as well as attend trainings and mandatory meetings as required by funders.
  • This is an active role, including but not limited to the following activities: lifting and carrying objects and materials; rearranging furniture as needed for events and programming on site and in the community at a variety of locations.
  • Flexibility in scheduling with availability for some evenings and weekends, as needed.
  • Will be required to attend the following trainings within first year of hire or as assigned by Supervisor:
    • Community Health Worker Training, Motivational Interviewing, Matter of Balance, Culture Diversity, Health Literacy and any other training deemed necessary.
