Description:

JOB SUMMARY:  Auto Body Technician is responsible for preparing the vehicles and parts for final paint and the preparation and finishing of the vehicles and parts.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Prepare surface for painting using body filler, Dual Action (DA) and a variety of pneumatic grinders
  • Grind, file and sand surfaces of vehicle and parts
  • Examine and feel all surfaces of metal to detect defects
  • Apply undercoats and finish coats using the full range of application methods and materials
  • Mix and match paints and finishes
  • Use various methods to prepare surface for painting
  • Mask surfaces with tape and paper
  • Operate, clean, and maintain all necessary equipment
  • Liaise with supervisor on problems to achieve efficient repair
  • Maintain a clean and tidy work area
  • Complete all documentation including inspection sheets
  • Identify abnormalities and repairs required as result of internal actions and advise the supervisor accordingly
  • Identify areas of process improvement, cost and waste reduction
  • Work in an efficient and timely manner
  • Undertake relevant training and development as required
  • Carry out work orders within a realistic time line ensuring that deadlines are met
  • Maintain cooperative working relationships, and demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for a diverse population
  • Record all hours worked accurately

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Safely store and label materials
  • Perform routine maintenance on paint booths, guns and gun cleaner
  • Adhere to and carry out existing work practices, procedures and policies
  • Maintain confidentiality and observe data protection and associated guidelines where appropriate
  • Understand and comply with safety and environmental policies
  • Other duties as assigned

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in automotive painting

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision
