Provides daily supervision of certain accounting staff and operational activities.  Recommends, develops and implements accounting and department operational policies. In the absence of the Controller and Assistant Controller, serves as an information resource as needed. Provides support to the Controller and Assistant Controller with preparation of various monthly and quarterly account reconciliations, reporting support and proper accounting of transactional data.

Key Accountabilities:
Maintains quality control for Berkshire Bank general ledger accounts, i.e. reviews accuracy of account balances.  Posts to and maintains various subsystems of the G/L, i.e. investments,. Reviews all account reconciliations from various departments for completeness and accuracy to ensure adherence to policy and controls; notifies department head when not in compliance.  30%

Supervises staff and department operations, i.e. assigns workflow, schedules and reviews work in process.  Provides for training, conducts performance appraisals, makes salary recommendations, etc., to develop and motivate highly skilled staff. Recommends and implements accounting and departmental policies to ensure accurate maintenance of financial records and prompt resolution of problems.   20%

Reviews and assists the department in the preparation, verification, assembling of certain supporting schedules related to Regulatory and SEC filings.  15%

Serve as back-up and provides assistance, as necessary, for the acquired loan accounting system.  Also works with acquired loan system vendor contacts on any implementation and or issues as they may arise.  10%

Conducts monthly reconciliation of various GL accounts and contacts the Bank or department heads for proper disposition of outstanding items.   10%

Ensures that entries are booked, checks balances for reasonableness and processes accrual entries as needed.  10%

Provide assistance as necessary related to the maintenance and testing of the department’s internal control activities and policies in accordance with SOX 404. Works well within a team to perform backup to staff and officers and provides internal customer service to other departments within the Bank and other duties as assigned.  5%
Bachelor’s Degree in business, concentration in Accounting/Finance
CPA preferred, but not required

5+ years of accounting experience
Supervisory experience
Public or CPA accounting firm experience a plus
