The Communications Program at MCLA invites applications for a full-time, one-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Multimedia Journalism/Media Studies to begin on September 1, 2024, with possible renewal for up to an additional two years.

The successful candidate will serve as the advisor for the student newspaper and digital media platform, The Beacon and Beacon Web News (BWN), and will teach undergraduate journalism and media courses including Introduction to Mass Media, Writing and Reporting the News, Data Journalism and Publication Design. We are especially interested in candidates who can integrate and develop the various media opportunities that the Beacon and BWN provide, such as supporting the digital platform with streaming, podcasting, live video, and other content formats.

MCLA seeks a candidate committed to high quality teaching, undergraduate mentoring and advising, and who will make contributions to MCLA's ongoing commitment to bring diversity, equity, and inclusion to the curriculum. Additional responsibilities include participation in department meetings.

  • Master's degree or its equivalent in Journalism, Communications, or a related field; PhD/ABD preferred
  • Experience in undergraduate teaching preferred
  • Experience in advising student publications preferred
  • Experience in multimedia storytelling, including audio, photography, and video
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud
