MCLA is seeking an Electrician II for the Facilities Department who will be
responsible for testing, repairing, installing and/or maintaining electrical equipment and systems on campus as well as troubleshooting electrical and related equipment.
DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Tests, repairs, install and/or maintain various types of electrical systems and equipment to ensure proper maintenance and functioning of equipment.
•Maintains all lighting; i.e., ballasts, fixtures, wiring, etc on campus.
•Ensures all the equipment under his areas of responsibility is running correctly and efficiently.
•Troubleshoots electrical malfunctions by using necessary equipment, reading schematics, diagrams, etc. to identify and correct operational problems.
•Tests and maintains emergency generators; test and reset fire alarm systems.
•Responsible for writing specifications for equipment purchases to maintain adequate inventory of equipment and materials.
•Performs preventive maintenance as required.
•Determines on-the-job procedure changes by consulting with trades people, outside contractors, utility companies and others to obtain technical advice, coordinate, supervise and expedite work projects.
•Writes specifications for equipment purchases.
•Remove and/or install voice, data, coaxial and fiber optic cable.
•Works with outside contractors as needed and inspects their work visually to ensure compliance with college's safety codes and regulations.
•Determines acceptable quality of materials and/or equipment necessary for a job to ensure that completed work projects comply with specifications.
•Maintain reports such as time and production, repair, cost analysis, etc.
•Assign work activities to Electrician I and/or co-op students.
•Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Journeyman or Master Electrician's License. Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class 3 Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
•Knowledge of local and Massachusetts State Electrical Code.
•Knowledge of types and skill to use small hand and power tools.
•Knowledge of types and uses of testing equipment used in electrical work.
•Knowledge of safety procedures and precautions observed in the electrical trade.
•Knowledge of inspection techniques used in the electrical trade.
•Knowledge of commercial fire alarm systems.
•Knowledge of commercial wiring and air conditioning.
•Knowledge of all types of motor control and basic operation of generators.
•Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
•Ability to maintain accurate records.
•Ability to climb and work from ladders and scaffolding ant at times bucket lifts.
•Ability to read and interpret documents such as electrical plans, schematics and drawings.
•Ability to detect and locate causes of electrical failure or breakdown of equipment.
This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, (Grade 17, Step 1) position in the AFSCME bargaining unit. Biweekly salary is $1798.06. The deadline for applications is May 25, 2018.
