DescriptionThe Department of Music at Williams College announces a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor appointment in Musicology beginning in the fall of 2025.
DUTIES: Teach four courses each year (two per semester), including a survey of European music history from 1750-1900 for majors, introductory or elective courses on Classical- or Romantic-era topics, and other courses related to the candidate's interests and experience. QualificationsDoctorate in musicology with particular expertise in any period of music history from 1750 to 1900; expertise in a secondary area that complements the strengths and interests of current faculty is especially welcome. Doctorate must be in hand by September 2025. Teaching experience at the undergraduate level is desirable.

Short-list candidates will be asked to supply sample syllabi (for a past or potential future courses) and writing samples (e.g. an article or dissertation chapter).

The Music Department has 11 full-time faculty and approximately 40 part-time Artist Associates and Artists in Residence. The Department maintains an active musical life with approximately 100 events each year including those by the Berkshire Symphony, Concert and Chamber Choirs, Jazz Ensemble, Zambezi Marimba Band, Kusika (an African dance and percussion ensemble), Williams Brass Ensemble, Williams Chamber Players, I/O New Music, Chinese Music Ensemble, student chamber groups, and visiting artists and ensembles.
