The Central Berkshire Regional School District (CBRSD) comprised of the Towns of Becket, Cummington, Dalton, Hinsdale, Peru, Washington and Windsor and includes the following schools; buildings and other facilities; 

  • Becket Washington Elementary School, Becket 
  • Craneville Elementary School, Dalton 
  • Kittredge Elementary School, Hinsdale 
  • Nessacus Regional Middle School, Dalton 
  • Wahconah Regional High School, Dalton 
  • Central Office Administration, Dalton

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALITIES AND EDUCATION:

The Director should have a practical working knowledge of all aspects of facility management necessary to analyze and solve problems, efficiently and safely maintain buildings and grounds, prudently plan for the timely repair and replacement of systems, and adequately budget for both the short and long term needs of the physical plants entrusted to his/her care.

 RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Director of Building and Grounds reports to the Director of Finance and Operations and is responsible for developing, planning, organizing and directing the maintenance, repair and alteration of district buildings and grounds; ensuring that repairs and facility upgrades are completed efficiently and within regulatory guidelines and projected deadlines; communicates regularly with the Director of Finance and Operations, Head Custodians and School Principals.

  • Provides a monthly overview and weekly schedule accessible to the Director of Finance and Operations to include time on site at each of the 5 buildings throughout the week and time spent on roles and responsibilities as defined below. Maintain an updated schedule.
  • Provides weekly communication to the Head Custodians, building Principals and the Director of Finance and Operations  regarding orders and delivery (to include any delays and expected arrival), construction upgrades including timelines and start and completion dates, building modifications to site to maintain safe occupancy, timeliness of projected work and plans for meeting all deadlines, and explicit communication to all office staff and building level administration regarding the anticipated arrival of contracted service providers.
    • Create a timeline of all needed repairs throughout the year to include persons responsible, date of completion, and steps needed for the task.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on all HVAC and plumbing systems in the district in collaboration with building custodians in a timely manner.
  • Provide follow-up communication to building principals within 24 hours when there is a building maintenance issue that arises and needs attention and expertise.
  • Arrange bi-weekly meetings with the Director of Finance and Operations for the purpose of:
    • Reviewing weekly tasks and responsibilities
    • Providing them with all necessary documentation needed for task completion
    • Sharing timelines for task completion
  • Conducts periodic inspections of all facilities in order to ensure that all students and staff are provided with safe working environments to include major maintenance and/or capital needs are identified and addressed.
  • Develop a comprehensive 10-year Capital Budget for all facilities and provide input and guidance on the development of the Annual Operating Budget for each school as it relates to facility maintenance.
  • Develop and help implement a Preventive Maintenance Program (PMP) to ensure that mechanical systems and other elements of each facility achieve their maximum life expectancy.
  • Analyze structural and mechanical problems and recommend the most practical and cost effective solutions in each instance.
  • Assist in the preparation of bid packages for maintenance/equipment goods and services.
  • Coordinate the district-wide purchase, inventory and distribution of custodial supplies and services to secure quality at the lowest price and a continuous supply of necessary items in all buildings.
  • Supervise contractors and serve as a liaison with the Head Custodians and the Director of Finance and Operations retained to perform routine maintenance and emergency repairs.
  • Evaluate the operation of each facility to ensure that "green" products and/or technology is being utilized wherever possible.
  • Assist the Director of Finance and Operations and building principals with custodian scheduling and supervision, when requested and/or needed.
  • Serve as Asbestos Coordinator for the district.

When necessary, work to help maintain the cleanliness, access to and safety of any given facility and perform all other duties as may be required from time to time as instructed by the Director of Finance and Operations. 

SALARY RANGE:  To be negotiated based on experience.

    Specifically the Director should have:

    • A practical, working knowledge of building construction, maintenance and repair as well as a working knowledge of the operation, maintenance and repair of mechanical systems including plumbing, electrical, heating, ventilation and air conditioning. Of these, it is imperative that the Director have demonstrated experience and training with the care, maintenance and operation of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Journeyman plumbing license preferred.
    • Familiarity with building codes and requirements within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. A Construction Supervisor's License is preferable but not required.
    • An awareness of and familiarity with federal OSHA regulations as they apply to public school facilities.
    • A practical working knowledge of landscape maintenance and systems including the proper care of athletic fields, lawns, irrigation systems, exterior lighting, septic/sewer systems, paved surfaces, and both vehicular and pedestrian circulation systems.
    • The ability to work cooperatively and effectively as a member of a team devoted to providing the best possible learning and working environment for the students and staff of CBRSD.
    • Computer skills necessary to maximize communication throughout the CBRSD community, stay current with evolving trends within the physical plant industry, and research products and solutions which would improve the effectiveness of the maintenance of CBRSD's facilities.
    • Asbestos Coordinator certification. (training available)
    • Demonstrated ability to perform physical labor.
